LSU and UF are historic powers.
Does "historic" stop at the 90s? Did I miss something?
Number of SEC titles, pre-1990:
LSU 5 solo, 2 shared - a case can be made for the Tigers, though nearly half of their overall count came post-2000. Their earlier titles have decade-long gaps between most. I would not call that a "power".
Florida - 0 - Absolutely NOT a historic "power".
If Florida is an "historic" power, then the following teams are also historic powers:
Prior to 1990, teams with more SEC titles:
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Georgia
Kentucky
Tulane
Georgia Tech
Anyone calling Florida an "historic" power has absolutely no concept of football history.

So Alabama and Vanderbilt are the SEC’s two historic powers.
Tennessee is an "historic" power without being a current one. LSU is a current power without being an "historic" one.
Florida is a past power, but is neither an "historic" one nor a current one.

Makes sense.
Alabama and Tennessee. Although Tennessee hasn't been a power for 20 years, historically they are the #2 SEC team.
#3 would be Georgia.

I think it comes down a lot to coaches. If they are new age or old school. We have one that would have sweated the covid straight out of players in a Texas tool shed. New Agers not so much

I have, in fact, been to California. It was crowded and it smelled like pee thanks to the Eucalyptus trees growing all over the state. Los Angeles is an armpit. San Francisco is an armpit with lots of hills. Thank you no.

LOL what? LSU has a very good case of already passing Tennessee in the all time rankings. You can’t say Tennessee is a historic power without saying LSU is very my close to it if not already there.

Recent events don't suddenly transform the meaning of the word "historic"
The US, no matter how powerful, is not an "historic" power. In the grand scheme of things, this country is still very much a baby compared to the European and Asian nations.
Is an LSU a better "all-time" program than Tennessee? Possibly.
Is it because of LSU's historical accomplishments? Absolutely not.

UCF could win 1000 games and they are still nothing - no one gives them a single thought. They will never be Florida of LSU. They are literally a place where dumb kids and 2 stars go

You need to move this argument to the SEC OT where we can discuss whether Mongolia and Macedonia are historic powers and things of that nature.

I suppose it depends on what you mean historical. You seem to be debating semantics of the word historical.
I understand your argument and don’t totally disagree with you. But historical is just looking at the past. You could also argue whether or not being 4th and 5th in conference wins or winning percentage makes you a “power”.

Historic huh?
Three national titles with three consecutive head coaches (two of them being idiots). Only Miami is in that company. That's pretty historic.

No they aren't.
Yes, we are. Since college football began in the year 2000, we have certainly been a historic power.

…It's also reasonable to say Mizzou and Texas A&M don't quite understand how important it is to the conference to take the bowl game seriously. SEC schools put a lot of pressure on each other to make a good showing in bowl season….
A&M is 3-0 in bowls with its current coach, and has won 6 bowls since joining the SEC. Only Bama and Georgia have won more. Georgia with 7.
