Are we a bunch of spoiled pansies in the conference wondering if something has failed before it's even launched?
WTF has happened to America? When did we start thinking like losers?

Because why take $30 a month or whatever from the 10% of the population that is college football fans when you can take $1+ from everyone who has cable?
You do realize with that math, ESPN comes in less without the streaming service?
Probably more likely a realistic streaming service price is $10, on par with Netflix and Amazon.

Why not get both? The providers would miss out on the advertising money too.

Because without net neutrality the providers would just throttle connections to that streaming service until ESPN pays them a chunk of money...
1. I don't want the Internet policed by anyone, especially not the US government.
2. They can throttle bandwidth, but there is always competition and you can switch ISPs. Google is going to start offering low earth orbit satellite connections to avoid the throttling from ISPs.
3. Netflix doesn't have this problem and I would say that they have been pretty successful.

Why are you so obsessed with this topic? This is the third thread you've started about it

You're really comparing the SEC to the Big10 and Pac12?
This mentality is laughable.
Most people outside of the SEC couldn't give a lick about it--trust me.
It's the center of your sports world (understandable); but that's not universal.
Not sure how it can be characterized as a "failure," a "success," or anything else at this point.

Huge HUGE failure..
I expect Slive to pull the plug any day now.

It hasn't launched. I have DISH. So the answer is no.

All cable providers in the South will carry the SEC Network but it will not be available until around the first week of August.
If cable company's advertised right now that they were gonna carry the SEC Network. ESPN "owner of the SEC Network" would rape them on the negotiation price. Because at that point ESPN would "know" they had the cable provider exactly where they want them, this is the period of the "chinese haggling" part of the negotiations.

NO there is NOT.

YES, they do. They just had to pay off Comcast to stop fricking up their streams.

Have your tried Satellite Internet before?
1)The delay on its is pretty bad. If you need to do something the requires realtime interaction don't bother.
2) The bandwidth limits on monthly usage for Satellite Internet are a bit lower than traditional broadband providers.
3) The Speeds are kinda crappy especially for upload. They are just now starting to offer 1 Mbps upload and remember you have limits on that too.
As for Competition of ISP, The Majority of Americans either have 1 or 2 choices for Highspeed internet. Local governments created this mess by making hard as frick to break into a new market. Oddly enough, Local governments desire to attract Google fiber to their city is actually loosening up some these restriction in some areas.

I didn't read the rest of this thread but have you all never seen how the cable co's treat content companies like ESPN?
This is standard operating procedure. It's very much akin to the Budget Deficit Ceiling negotiations when no one really starts talking turkey until about 72 hours prior to the deadline.
Y'all need to get out more.

No, because ESPN bundles their products. Between ESPN1, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, LHN, etc. the cable companies end up paying $10+ per person per month. There are 30 million cable subscribers in the SEC footprint alone, that is $300 million+ a month.
There is no way there is 10 million people willing to pay $30 a month for sports alone in the same footprint, which is the break even for an al-a-carte option.

No offense but the only really relevant names on this entire list are bolded, and I'm being nice on Google since Im not even sure if they have t.v. launched yet (but I see that becoming very popular very quickly.
The big names missing that many people have are Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, Verizon, Cox, Charter, Cablevision, Bright House...
I mean I'm sure the 250 subscribers to the Southern Montana Telephone Company are going to love their SEC Network but, well, you get the point.

Because then they would miss out on the catch 22 that live sports prevents cord cutting. By restricting distribution to just cable companies it becomes a benefit for those companies.
Al a carte can always be done later if the cable companies push back.
Its leverage.

Yes & yes it was built on pre-2008 economic forecasting and thus is doomed to failure like an over priced strip-mall.
