Football has always been the strongest of the Big 3, but baseball and basketball are pushing the boundaries of what used to define this conference.
If this continues, we could see the SEC become the daddy conference of college athletics with no debate. Overall, we really already are, but no one will be able to dispute it soon.

It’s time to dominate the Yankees in hockey.

While i know as a whole weve been the best the last 2 decades or so, we certainly looked like frauds this year when Bama beat the piss out of everyone in the conference and then got destroyed by an ACC team in the National title game. Dabo isnt currently 70 years old and is recruiting lights out.

The gumps are starting to ruin our reputation as an elite football conference.

Can not win every one, but remember Coach Bryant also got beat 38-6 in 1971.....

Its honestly not even a slight dig at alabama. Its that all of us of have been chasing our tails in circles trying to beat him to no avail. Clemson has kinda been building up over there (while recruiting in our backyards btw) and seem to have come up with a plan thats worked 2 times so far. They probably beat alabama by as many points in the last game as every SEC game bamas lost combined in the last few years.

Well, Ole Miss beat Alabama twice as well....
However, with the refs swallowing their whistles in one of the games, Clemson has only 1

That Nebraska team is right up there with the 95 Huskers. Beat final #2 (Oklahoma), final #3 (Colorado), and final #4 (Alabama).

I think baseball is the strongest of the Big 3. Much deeper than football and more teams are successful in baseball than in football where it’s really just Alabama who dominates in football. Basketball is on the rise though and it will be hard to be the top basketball conference because of the ACC but we could make a run at it.
Also, the US will never be successful in soccer until they decide to let SEC teams have men’s soccer programs

I disagree. While football is a close second, baseball is the SEC's strongest Big 3 sport.
Recently, the SEC's relative power in football has, if anything, decreased. I think we hit our peak as a conference in the mid-2000s to early 2010s. Although Alabama is a behemoth, the rest of us haven't sniffed anything significant in recent years besides Georgia. There are a lot of young and/or inexperienced head coaches holding the reins in the SEC at the present time.

Same here. Basketball is the only big 3 sport that the SEC doesn't dominate, so it's really just about basketball improving to the same level as the other two.

If by surging you mean getting its arse handed to them by the Big 12 then yes I agree.

quote:Bama is what is hurting the conference. Throwing all the 5*s on one team at all cost and the rest of the conference drops off little by little. A couple more post season losses by Bama (unless it's to another sec school) and the conference will be considered average. Bama offers nothing in the other 2 sports for the conference.

If the sec is smart they will bust up the ring in ttown and the conference will be revived from top to bottom and by the books.

Where have you been?
The SEC is dominant almost every year in softball, gymnastics, women's tennis, track of all varieties, baseball, football, swimming, equestrian, and usually golf and a long history of dominating womens basketball along with La Tech and UConn. That we have some success in mens basketball doesn't really change anything. The SEC still rules most sports.

It's all that football money. Most of us (there are a few cheap AF schools in this conference with shite facilities; we all know who they are) have invested that football money in great facilities and have built it up to where that money is now flooding into the other sports.
