I don't see how these people haven't packed it in and left Auburn. It can't be a comfortable existence.

Article says a task force was involved, so I'm inclined to believe actual child porn

Could also be revenge porn stuff reported by a girl in high school, i.e. girl's nude pictures passed around by other kids in school. They'd investigate that as well. Impossible to say without more information. Regardless, kid is a POS either way and that had been determined long before this new arrest

Yes they do. I went to high school with a kid that killed a mother of 3 in an accident where he blew through a red light sober. He didn't spend a day in jail. He was actually a good kid, just made a tragic mistake that ended up with someone dying.

Not saying it doesn't happen (I doubt your schoolmate was going 90+ mph though). It is the fact that the judge literally stated:

“At the time of the accident, the defendant was a 16-year-old teenager with no prior criminal history, who had smoked or used marijuana and had been diagnosed with marijuana use disorder. None of this justifies what happened; however, it does lend itself to treatment as a Youthful Offender. THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED AND ADJUDGED that the Application to be treated as a Youthful Offender is hereby GRANTED.”

The judge actually put out there that if you smoke a lot of weed, it "lends itself to treatment as a youthful offender". How do you publicly imply that being a drug addict means you are more likely to get favorable treatment?

Same way adults looking at major time in prison for trafficking drugs and all that comes with that find themselves in drug court with bullshite suspended sentences and rehab. Similar arguments are made: "Your honor, this man isn't a criminal, he's an addict." You'd be shocked (and many times disgusted) at how much herding of cattle goes on in the judicial system with not a whole lot of justice for anyone, especially first time offenders. That, in and of itself, completely soured me to that as a career path.

This kid being a minor at the time, a first time offender, and with rich parents (and presumably an expensive attorney) basically ensured he'd never be punished how he should have been for what he did. That type of stuff is also why I couldn't ever stomach criminal defense work. The only thing I'll touch is minor stuff in the realm of "good guy had a bad day, made a bad choice, and didn't hurt anyone but himself" type of stuff.

Immediately my first thought too, or some other technicality used to charge this POS, but reading through the article it sounds more serious than that.

Either way, ball don’t lie—hope all involved get their karma, justice, or whatever you want to call it this time around.

Should have given him a long suspended sentence like 10 years and first infraction made him serve it.

for DUI manslaughter driving 90 mph, I'd prefer longer than 10 years, and I wouldn't suspend his sentence. I'd make him serve every day.

Agree, just saying if a judge was leveraged into leniency, put a catch with it.

Most of the time you're targeted for stuff like that either because you went to a honeypot website and tried to solicit someone or materials in chat or because someone dropped your name to law enforcement because they saw something.

This guy is pretty universally hated for what happened so I wouldn't rule out anything.

I have heard tell of a wealthy cotton planter's family member getting slap on the wrist judgements for 2 convictions for dealing meth. Bammer Sigma Nu lawyer connections and money > than justice.
