At that point it becomes less about being a champion because you earned it by beating a great team and more about you are a champion because you finally beat a great team at the right time and in the right game. That championship would have a huge asterisk beside it and that wouldn’t be fair…

The playoff champion will have to win at least 4 games in a row against top opponents (as those who got byes would have won their CCG so would still have 4 games in a row

But not necessarily equal opponents. Some conferences are tougher than others and so some teams will get easier opponents until later in the playoffs.

If Texas beats UGA for the Natty then yes they would be GIVEN the title considering they would end up with a 2-1 record against the Dawgs for the year.
Well, CFB is now like the NFL. It is what it is. Having real playoffs means that can happen.

Hmm sounds familiar, where a team beats one team in regular season and then the looser gets another chance it didn’t deserve.

Georgia has earned 2 victories against Texas already and won both. Asking them to beat Texas again in the same season and the winner is national champs is not only unfair but just wrong and totally unfair.
What would make this fair in your opinion, Georgia loses the final and still gets the trophy?

That’s a bad example. Alabama and LSU split. They only played each other twice. Here you would have a team playing another 3 times and only winning the Natty game.

I think it's only hard to beat a team a second (or third) time if the earlier win were flukish

The small lead despite the massive yardage discrepancy from game 2 half 1 was kind of flukish. 2 missed FG’s isn’t common either.

What is likely to happen is that we see UGA vs Texas matchup.

In that scenario, I feel the only honorable thing to do would be to split the titles (assuming UGA loses).

Maybe we should go back to the good old days when the regular season really mattered and they crowned the champion before they played, and sometimes lost their bowl game. This is the stupid arse shite that nobody liked about college football. The bowls have always been ridiculously stupid and the championship was a popularity contest. The problem now isn't the playoffs, it is the conference championship games. Those are not needed, but the conferences make a lot of money on them so we will see how it shakes out.

I agree. All the knee-jerk reactions after the first round were just that: knee-jerk. We've had some good games and still have 2 more rounds of the sport we love the most. The best part is CFB has been relevant and enjoyable. Who hasn't enjoyed coming on here and lambasting the losers? I'll sit back and wait for an answer on that.

It would upset me even more as a fan of the sport to see Georgia lose to Texas in the Natty and lose the title to a team they would hold a 2-1 record against this season. That would be a total travesty.

If Texas beats ASU, OSU and then UGA I would be the first to say they deserve it. In every aspect of life it's the person who wins the final battle that is declared the victor.

How is this likely to happen?
