You do realize that "March Madness" is trademarked by the NCAA, and as the owner of a trademark you're required to monitor the use of anything similar to your trademark, and protect it by filing these types of suits? If you fail to do so, you can lose the trademark.

So, yeah, this is not only normal, but is actually required by the USPTO.

Doesn't have to be exact. Anything remotely similar will trigger the requirement. The fact that everyone knows it's a riff on "March Madness" basically shows why it's necessary for the NCAA to file the suit to protect their trademark.

Yep. I work in advertising and I don't dare call shite anything close to March Madness. Hell my butthole clinches when they want me to call it March anything just for this very reason.

They literally have to protect their trademaek or they lose it. He's not overthinking it, he's correct.

"Don't they have anything better to do" is a tired argument. They're doing what they have to do.

Haha, exactly. Same thing with the Super Bowl. At least everyone just uses "the big game" in advertising now.

The University of Louisville once sued a high school football team in the state of Kentucky over their helmets that used the same Cardinal logo.

Kentucky went after a bourbon distillery for selling a line of blue T-shirts with block KENTUCKY on the front.

The NCAA and its members don't play when it comes to money.

NCAA is so money hungry. They already make millions off of unpaid athletes, but lets still sue Barstool for Barch Madness. What a joke of an organization
