Even though the four team playoff is better than we've ever had, they need to go to 6 and assure the conference champs get in

For example in this scenario, Florida lost to vandy but still plays Alabama in Champ game. Wouldn't it be in the best interest of the SEC to do everything in its power to let bama win that game. If Florida wins the sec is almost assured of being shutout. The conference would lose some money i believe

Not saying it would happen but if anything controversial arises.........

It will probably get to 8 in 10 years

Five conference champs and three at large bids. If you are #9 then win more games.

8 teams

P5 conference champs (MUST determine ONE, looking at you, big12) are automatic bids.

3 teams at large based on rankings, SOS, quality wins, and other factors.

6 or 8 is better than 4

Anything above 8 is worse than anything 8 or below. Don't go above 8. Ideally in an 8 team system, P5 conf champs get auto bids along with the 3 best at larges. Also, have the quarterfinals be at home stadiums, and the top 4 teams get HF advantage.

Calling it a "playoff" when a team can go undefeated and not make it, is disingenuous. This is not a playoff, it is a a four team tournament that you get invited to play in.

Could you see a conference fixing a champ game in the above scenario. I think it's within the realm of possibility. Especially with money involved

But that has never happened and probably never will

There has never been 4 undefeated p5 teams in a season

A four team tournament. In other words, a playoff...

Eh, I see your point, but it's always going to be this way when there are so many teams in play.

It IS an invitational tournament, but that doesn't make it a bad thing that a team can go undefeated and not make it in if said team played a criminally weak schedule.

Especially if it's Marshall or some team like that. That's the problem with an 8 team playoff. I guarantee they would put in northern Illinois every year

That wouldn't bother me so much in an 8 team playoff, especially if the conference champs are a lock.

A NIU-type team will either get exposed with a quickness or go on a cinderella run.

Can't really bitch about it if you didn't win your conference.

ETA: I think the first couple iterations of the CFB playoff committee have shown that they're looking for quality scheduling.

The only problem with having better records determining home field advantage is when you have a team with a shitty schedule go undefeated and you have a major team having to travel to there small stadium that only holds 20,000 people.

I like the idea of the committee having a flex schedule. Some years there would be just 4 teams. Other years they may have a play in where #4 plays #5 first. Or maybe 2, 3 or 4 playins first. The committee would determine if a team deserved a playin. We may have a couple lower level teams go undefeated. Have them playin first. The regular season would still be important because you never would know if the committe is going to take 4 or up to 8 teams in a given year.

I am gonna jump in on the 8 team band wagon. Reward winning your conference but recognize teams that play in hard divisions and hard conferences.

ahh.....yess...... its all about being 'undefeated' regardless of who you actually played. so a team ike notre dame could decide to schedule 12 cupcakes. cal themselves 'undefeated' and demand entrance in the playoff/tourney, whatever. and you'd totally support their claim? sheesh, thats messed up

Yeah this is my biggest complaint now. I hate the neutral site game. Top two seeds should get home field.

NO

4 is plenty. There will always be a team that feels left out. The more you expand the playoff the more you dilute the season.

If you aren't clearly one of the top 4 teams then you don't "deserve" a shot at the title.
