We need to put this to rest. It’s embarrassing. Only utter morons are making this claim.

Defense isn't good enough for greatest ever...is what it is. Doesn't mean you aren't a great team this year, but you wouldn't be considered the best ever by anyone that isn't wearing LSU blinders
I wouldnt consider this team the greatest team ever however they will have surpassed some historic numbers in competition beaten as far as rankings if they win the championship. Trask is clearly better than Franks so its pointless to continue calling him your backup quarterback.
Also, the defense only gave up 24 points to Vandy.

Wrong

They’re really not even in the GOAT discussion, but they’re still a very good team on offense. In context, They’re probably only relatively weaker going into the playoffs then the Alabama teams of the past decades ,versus the two Auburn teams that were SEC champs and the 2017 Georgia SEC champs where I think they’re better then.
There’s a pretty good chance they could be an underdog vs. Clemson or OSU in a championship game, and I don’t think it would be a stunning upset if they lost to Oklahoma (whom also has a very good offense)

What are you basing this claim off of and which teams are you referring to?

Agreed. OU beats LSU 87 to 3 and Clemson wins it all. Book it. Hurts wins the heisman after this game.

yeah Larry Coker is a legendary coach

Or win a one point game against UNC.
Clemson was a decent play call away from losing to UNC and missing the playoff.

This is a fact. Ole Miss poor defense gave up 6 to them.

The last national champion that didn't have a WTF game or a truly lackluster performance that season was the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Y’all gave up like 400yards passing to Jake Bentley.... in your “greatest” year

Couldn’t be further from the truth. Great teams find a way to win no matter what.

Regardless of how LSU does this year, they don’t compare to last years 15-0 Clemson team since that team beat the “Greatest team ever” in the NC.
Winning a NC ain’t worth squat unless you beat Bama in the NC to earn it...just means more.

2011 LSU had an elite defense, with an offense that I'd say was less than this year's defense. That bit us in the rematch (a lot more than people remember- LSU held Bama to a bunch of FGs in that game. If LSU could have moved and scored, they still probably win).
It's tough to say anyone is the GOAT team. And to be honest, I don't think you need to be the GOAT to win in any matchup.
This LSU vs either 2011 LSU or Bama team, I say this one wins. The defense is good enough to hold for a half, and the offense is good enough to grab the lead and get to a safe margin. That's been the formula this season, and it's worked against some damn good teams. Could someone run all over them? Maybe, in the second half- but if you're up 2-3 scores you don't mind that too much.

The defending champs doesn't owe Mac Brown a huge arse bonus... but actually, they do. Mac takes Clemson to OT and your season takes a dive. Instead, he opted to go for the win and Dabo owes him big time.
