JB (the guy singing the national anthem) and Michael Houser (the now diceased guitarist) met in the dorms at UGA in the early 80s and loosely began collaborating, with WSP forming formally a few years later. It's no shade to JB to say they're a cover band from me, but while Mikey didn't write everything, it's important to understand Panic is a jamband, and JB is mostly just the singer, the prominence of Mikey as the lead guitarist in their show any given night can't be overstated.
The interplay between Mikey and their bassist Dave Schools as they shredded the catalogue is more of their signature in the classic era, and more why they were a notable band than JB's singing or the songs, though he is certainly the"frontman" for the band and also essential. There were many other important members of the band but it's like the Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia, it's just not the same band.
Also before they signed Jimmy Herring, who is an excellent guitarist in his own right but not really known for his work with Panic, they had this guy George McConnell slotted in and he was really not up for it, dark years for the band imo. It's fine if people still enjoy the shows or if the members want to carry on and make a living but it's simply not the same band without Mikey.

Friend of the family went to UGA in the late 70's early 80's and got to see REM in their infancy.
He said when he saw them, they were the WORST 3 chord band he'd ever heard. Then 3-4 years later they were HUGE.

Is it at all possible to RA this for anchoring or a move to one of the “Who gives a shite?” boards?

That is not the “gotcha” that you think it is
Do you want him to start a whole new thread to complain about this thread.
I don’t THINK so.

Widespread panic is a gay arse jam band. Is he just going to play the anthem or will there be a 25 minute acoustic instrumental also?
I had never heard of Widespread Panic years ago, when I discovered they were at the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and I saw a large crowd around their stage. I approached, listened for about 10 minutes, and walked away confused about why the crowd was there. Just a bunch of noise posing as music. You have to be stoned or high on something to enjoy listening to that. Like a poor man's Pat Matheny, a very poor man's Pat Matheny.

I agree, but this guy is probably the type that posts “Melt!” in the most innocuous of threads because he has no other input and just wants to be part of the group.

A better option would be just ignoring the threads that he doesn't find interesting instead of bitching about it. Crazy idea, I know.

Widespread Panic sounds nothing like Pat Metheny. Not even the same genre.

Sounds like one of those "legendary rock stars" on Foxnews site as click bait, then they turn out to be a dipshit like this clown.
