The institution? It’s “stakeholders” (boosters)

Because the vast majority of people have zero idea how LSU’s system works

False numbers. OM isn't anywhere near the Top 10 in scoring defense in 2025. And that's with the easiest schedule in the SEC.

I agree we had an easy schedule. Get rid of Mississippi State and replace them with anyone with a pulse and yes, it would have been a much tougher schedule.

Lebby won a lot of games as OC. Arnett was a pretty stout DC. Chad Morris was a great assistant, too We see how those turned out. A great assistant doesn't always translate into a great HC

What if Pete is actually the white board genius Saban says he is? Fun hypothetical that He can’t call in game defense, but can run a solid program.

Pete didn't get fired the week before a National Championship game, and didn't bail on Ole Miss with Lane. So he's got that going for him.

Never thought of Golding as HC material, but he did spend some years under Saban. So we'll see. Hell, who would have mentioned the name Cignetti until recently?

I just wouldn't bet much money on it.

Very few do. But the following coaches all went from coordinator to their current job. Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning. Kirby Mcquire, Pete Golding. Five of the remaining 8 coaches left in the playoffs went from coordinator to their current head coaching job. Had Oklahoma won it would be 6 of 8. So it is very possible. It is hard to predict who can handle the shift from running an offense or defense to running a football program.

When you see all the pro bowlers and all-pro players from the 2022 defense in the NFL, you know that what happened in 2022 in Tuscaloosa was criminal under-achievement by a staff.

Alabama had one game where he lost the game (Tennessee) and another where his partner in crime on offense lost the game (LSU). That team should have went 15-0 but Saban couldn't hire good coaches anymore at his age and he was too old to cover down for the deficiencies which is why the man retired.

I’m not, I hope Kiffin wins a natty next year and beats the shite out of Ole Piss for the foreseeable future.

Yes, the Tennessee game was frustrating. Everyone knew what was coming, and Golding could not stop it.

As for Saban’s assistants, I think he got tired of having to completely replace his staff every year. I think he decided a pretty good coach he could hold on to was better than having to make a new hire. Those usually worked out, but a few bombed (Applewhite, Lupoi, etc)
