I mean. They’ll add tu one day. They’ll be in the Midwest, California, Florida, and Texas. Visionary conference that I don’t think is great for the sport, but smart for them.

Guess which game drew more viewers this year...the Egg Bowl or Cal-UCLA. Again...you know the answer. Ole Miss-Miss.State: 2.29M Cal-UCLA: 1.66M
Pumps viewerships numbers and cherry picks random game yet again even though SEC tv package is 4 BILLION less than B1G.
Again , you cant fix stupid even though numbers and ad dollars for networks clearly show B1G is almost worth 2.3x the amount to networks

The truth is that nobody knows what the future holds. It’s all new territory hardly any precedent. Both B10 and SEC football were built on regional and state pride. Rivals became rivals over decades (some played for over a century). Rivalries and conferences formed organically, they weren’t forced into existence by outside influences like TV networks and conference expansion. So, who knows how it will play out? I for one don’t like the direction of college football. I don’t think it’s going to under, it’s here to stay. But, I fear the powers that be will undermine the rich history of college football. Hell, it started a while ago. I miss the great Oklahoma/ Nebraska games of my childhood. Texas and aTm should have never stopped playing (I’m thrilled it’s back). It’s a damn shame that Bedlam is gone! If Ole Miss and LSU ever quit playing, it would be a tragedy! Is Georgia/Auburn safe? How about ND/USC? What if some future network with a Big10 contract decides it wants Ohio State and USC instead, so it doesn’t have to pay ND? In short, nothing is sacred to those who only see the bottom line and short term goals.

A. I don’t know what the TV package revenue has to do with any of this. B. The OP said “20 years” I don’t know for sure, but I assume that contract isn’t a 20 year contract.
It’s for 10 years. It’s just the sheer stupidity thinking Big 10 will implode bc they added 4 west coast schools with massive brands that will only increase dollars to the conference to make it even more powerful after this 10 year deal is up. SEC might have the best competition but it’s not the most powerful or most lucrative conference by any means. You can’t be destroyed if you’re conference is already worth 2.3x that of the second best conference in terms of revenue , tv rights etc.

I mean how regional is the SEC now? A plane ride from Gainesville to Austin is 3 hours.

So, you're telling me that more people are interested in who has more $ than who has better athletics?

I get what they are trying to do and maybe it works but man these schools have nothing in common

They 100% could still do it.

Well, next year the B1G will be 3 TIME ZONES.

Maybe, maybe not. But that's not what you said.
Ask yourself this: why is the latest NFL game 8:00 EST?

The B1G has plans for the Southeast. It is all a matter of time.
agree with this.
the fact that they expanded out west is proof that the B1G want a national conference from coast to coast.
I expect UNC, Duke, and one of FSU/Miami will be in the B1G before the end of the decade.
SEC will likely get Clemson and whoever is left from FSU/Miami

Really? Check out the viewership on 9EST games last season versus 7EST.

No one will watch Cal and Stanford and no one on the East or West Coast cares about the Big 12.
quote:I'm not arguing late night time slots are as valuable as prime time and the B1G never demanded prime-time money for late-night games. But the networks gave the B1G a big boost in revenue for the time slot so the B1G came out the winner in expansion.

It's not a valuable time slot. Which is why only locally relevant games air in this spot. Which makes the whole "haha we have all time zones" ... moronic.

Like a lot of conferences, the Big 10 was caught flat footed when the SEC added Oklahoma and Texas.
Suddenly the SEC has 7 of the top 10 programs in revenue.
They didn't add USC and Oregon because of the time zone, they added them despite it. It's a liability but they're banking on it being worth it and they had to do *something* after getting surprised like that.

"Actually, it's valuable" is not a substantive rebuttal.
