College you could argue yes about Peterson. Pro most definitely not.
Peterson had an incredible pro career. He won an MVP and almost set the single season rushing record. He dragged Vikings teams with QBs like Tarvaris Jackson and Christian Ponder to the playoffs.
No RB has won an MVP since him. Which RB had a better pro career than Peterson in the last 20 years?

The bar is set high with South Carolina rushing defenses.
He ran on just about everyone.
Yes, SC D was bad, for 180 to be his worst game against them is funny.

I think the problem with analyzing Chubb is his greatest attribute is his consistency. Everybody remembers the tremendous runs but few remember the 4 yards gained on a 3rd and 3.
Here is the best thing I can say about Chubb:
College YPC:
7.1
8.1
5.0
6.0
Pro YPC:
5.2
5.0
5.6
5.5
5.0
McFadden and Chubb are both great backs...both had different skill sets. Just think Chubb is underrated.

No one is arguing Chubb has been great in the league. We’re talking about. College and college McFadden was better

Busts typically don't rush for over 1,000 yards in their final season. He battled injuries but the issue in Oakland wasn't him.
He wasn’t awful or anything but he never carried entire teams on his shoulders in the NFL the way Peterson and Henry have. If we weren’t starting this debate with the almost undeniable conclusion that McFadden is the greatest college running back of a generation I wouldn’t try to pick apart his NFL career. But I do find it interesting that every other HB in contention has dominated in the NFL as well.
Trent Richardson, an excellent college back with 2 national titles, has become a complete afterthought due to a poor NFL career.
The NFL has a peculiar way of exposing system college players with great stats. And make no mistake, Nutt’s offense was entirely designed around opening running lanes for his backs. I do think McFadden’s NFL career is relevant to this discussion. No one talks about Mike Leach’s QBs as all time great college players.

Speaking of, this is my favorite McFadden play. Alabama 2005 early in the season his freshman year. Came in as a backup and stiff armed Roman Harper for a 70 yard TD run to get them back in the game. You give him an open running lane with that ten yard head start, which Nutt’s OL did very well, and he was the best player on any field.

McFadden played most of his college and pro career with his toe about to fall off. Everyone plays through minor injuries, but he was ridden into the ground. Especially considering that we had Hillis and Jones. I get the pro point. But it’s very complicated with McFadden. I don’t know if he would ever have been close to AP level, but we did not get to see him at 100% much, if ever, by the time he was in the NFL and his injuries were always bad “nagging” ones. Maybe that factors in too. But DMAC is certainly in the Herschel, Bo, Henry, etc. “elite” back category for college. I’ve never seen anyone that size in pads tote the rock like that and do some of what he did other than the guys I just mentioned. And he did it against the best most of the time. As many LSU fans have said, you didn’t want him across from your defense.

quote:Sure, but not in the way you're asserting. No one was succeeding in Oakland while he was there, he was hurt most of the time, and as soon as he left he popped off at nearly 30 years old. If McFadden is drafted by a team like Dallas in the first place we're not even having this discussion.
I do think McFadden’s NFL career is relevant to this discussion.

Yeah, that was evidenced by his poor performance in the NFL.

It's because he played for Arkansas. Let's be honest here.

No because he was an elite RB.

No i mean he doesn't get as much national love because no one cares about Arky. Your mascot is a wild pig ffs and your colors are hideous.

Adrian Peterson best back since Barry Sanders .

It doesn't matter where he played as many will say he was the best college RB in the last 20 years.
He just happened to play for some mediocre Arkansas teams and wasn't surrounded by NFL talent on both sides of the ball that other RBs enjoyed.

Red and white is always better on the eyes than that nasty orange.

McFadden belongs beside Bo and Walker, all these others are just chumps playing the game. None of them would have gotten the numbers that they got if they had to play on that Arkansas offense.
McFadden was a great back, but to call the others chumps is ridiculous. In 2015, Fournette set school records with 1,953 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns. With an average of 162.8 rushing yards per game, he won the NCAA rushing title and was a consensus first team All American. And he did it with Les Miles running him into stacked boxes on every play, similar to what McFadden had to deal with. Overall, I think McFadden was a better back than Fournette, but at some point with some of the guys mentioned in this thread you're kind of splitting hairs.
