He was also pulled out of the crowd for a contest while wearing an FBI jacket. Big night for this fella.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's uncanny enough that I suspect it was deliberate.

To be fair, high school history classes never spent a lot of time on Hollywood history.

To be even more fair, kids today have all the information in the world at their fingertips. Back in my day, we had to yell angrily at a cloud for information on anything that happened prior to last Tuesday.

But seriously, if you don't know who John Candy is, then you are in luck because it means you haven't seen all his awesome movies.

Uncle Buck
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
The Great Outdoors
Canadian Bacon
Cool Runnings

Those are ones he was the star of and a good place to start. Probably the top5 among his movies.

He's also in a bunch of other movies where he plays smaller or equal roles, like Brewsters Millions, Space Balls, Vacation etc.

That is just all kinds of sad.

I have a family member younger than you and they have at least seen Uncle Buck and 1941 multiple times. I see "Stripes" on all the time on different channels.

Yes.

Posters were really mean and made fun of the way I spelled.
