Didn't Randall's take over AppleTree back in the early 90's?

Just an observation - why can't you frickin Aggies bow out of a discussion about DKR?

If you want to have a discussion amongst your fellow UTrans fans then take it to the UTrans board that you guys begged for for months to get.

Do you even realized that UTrans has its own board on this site.

Here is a link you can click on to make it easy for you to find it.

I am not sure that you understand what that word means. It seems like half of your posts are about A&M. Since you got on this site back in July, you have become the most frequent poster on here. You have even surpassed Sidewalk. You live on this site most of the day , everyday. Do you have any friends? Family you can spend time with? Hobbies you enjoy? OR is sitting on your arse staring at SECrant the vain of your existence? What did you do before you found SECrant? Surlyhorns? Orangebloods? Shaggybevo?

The ‘Shock the Nation Tour’.

I remember what a big deal it was for the team to be allowed to wear black shoes for the bowl game. They actually chanted “Black Shoes! Black Shoes!!”.

The bowl game was against Miami…

Is that why you CAPITALIZE IT?

Or are you screaming at me right now?

I am not sure if you are really ready for the rant. You seem to be getting consumed by it.

If you don’t get the reference or know why dildos hold such a place of reverence to the students in Austin, then you’re a fricking moron.

Let me guess, you are under 30.

DKR was all the things I stated. I grew up in that place. My first memories of football was sitting up at the top of the west side fighting crickets under the lights in the mid ‘70s.

There is a perception by others, not unfounded, that our stadium was not a particularly difficult environment in which to compete.

And that is no longer true. But we must prove it.
Nope, neither are my kids.

In the late 60's, in the midst of Texas' dominant 30 game winning streak, we used to picnic outside the stadium on game days. We weren't inside, but it was very loud outside the stadium.

I was a freshman in '74, w/ Earl Campbell. The '74-78 Texas-OU games in the Cotton Bowl were among the loudest games I ever went to.

Those years are probably the only time Texas & A&M were good, at the same time, in my lifetime. During Earl's '77 Heisman season with Texas ranked #1, every game was loud as frick. Back then, the student section went from the goal line to the other 40, right behind the opposing team bench, and damn near everybody went to the football games (the sports pass was $30). Granted, sitting in the middle of the student section is different than the upper deck.

Texas playing against the Pony Express in the 80's pegged the meter.

The building crescendo on Ricky Williams' record breaking run was the among the loudest things I ever heard, not counting B-52's, F-100's and F-4's.

LSU was very loud. Some of the Alabama players said it was the loudest stadium they had ever played in.

DKR certainly has a wine-n-cheese reputation, but most drink whiskey, or beer. It may not be loud every play of every game, but I've seen the crowd cause numerous back-to-back pre-snap penalties by opposing teams, and that's loud enough.

Saturday night will be a rockin'!!!

Look at the secondary prices, people are not selling. My father was joking to me that he could sell his ticket and pay for multiple seasons, but he’s 86 and wants to die in his seat.

Prices have held pretty steady since May. I bought 8 together for $350 each and they are selling for about $400 now. Had UGA beat Alabama I suspect they'd be around $800-$1000 each. UGA fans will show up in droves, we always do, but there won't be as many as there would have been. We aren't making the trip, not because of the Bama loss but because we are still dealing with Helene and going out of town is not practical this weekend. I actually had a little trouble selling the 4 we would have used. I know several people who will buy any ticket anytime but they were waiting to see what happened with their homes. One of the finally bought them for what I paid for them but I thought I was going to have to list them. The other 4 belong to friends who live in the area so they will be there....not Dawg fans though, 2 are Florida fans and one is an Alabama fan and the 4th could care less.

That game went down as a legend for crowd noise, but I still can't figure out how we got so fired up over Houston - no matter their ranking.

It is amazing that a game against Houston seems to be memorable for Texas fans. That Houston team played exactly one team with a pulse....Texas....and got blown out. They wound up playing Arizona State in Tokyo on December 1. If that is truly a memorable crowd at DKR it may speak more to the environment at DKR.

But continuing to pull from that to speak about DKR is over 3 decades irrelevant now.

Admittedly I haven’t attended a game at DKR since 2021 (West Virginia game), but it had the same general feel as it usually does. A large stadium, but not much of a special college game atmosphere.

I’ll look forward to returning next year for the A&M game to see how things have changed. It’s been a pretty ho-hum experience up until now. No flame.

As far as Aggies responding to the thread, that’s sort of the purpose of a message board, no? Just sharing my experience on the topic.
