In all of the angles I saw, he was on a big body and nothing ever touched the ground. But, it should have at least been grounding as no one was in the vicinity of the ball. So a safety but not for the reason you think.

Can't have intentional grounding on a deflected ball. Otherwise, any ball that is batted down at the line of scrimmage would be intentional grounding as the ball would never get anywhere near the intended target.

The truth is, it was a bad decision by Bryce Young to even attempt the pass. I'd bet money he got a talking too after the play, because you do not do that. So many things could have easily gone wrong, and the amount of right that could happen was very limited.

How easily he could have made that throw, it hits the helmet of the defender just like it did yesterday, but instead of falling to the side like it did, it bounces straight up in the air. A Texas defender catches it, and instead of giving up 2 points, you just gave up 7(6 vs LSU if the game is on the line).

Or maybe he doesn't get the ball off in time and it ends up being a fumble. The best outcome at that point is your own player lands on it for a safety, or it rolls out of bounds for a safety. Just as likely however is that a Texas defender lands on it and now you've given up 7.

That is why you don't see QB's doing that stuff. It's actually dumb to do. You tuck the ball, and you take the sack, or in this case the safety. That is the smart play.

It was not smart football on the part of Bryce Young. He was merely lucky it worked out for him.

It pisses me off to no end, getting screwed by officials, and as an Arkansas fan, we’ve had more than our share of it in the old SWC and the SEC as well. That being said, when a crew of officials has spent the entire game screwing one team, very often their consciences get the better of them, and an inexplicable call or two goes the other way.

Now, I was watching the Hogs game, so I didn’t see a minute of the Texass v. Alabama game, but there’s been enough whining and bitching to know that’s probably what happened. How many penalties did Alabama have again?

No because it hit a UTx defender which makes it a tipped ball. Bottomline is this. There could be no safety or roughing because he wasn't down. And if he was down, they would not have waved off the roughing penalty. Which means first and 10 Bama after the penalty has been enforced.

All texsa had to do was not "Hook" an easy 20 yard chip-shot FG and they win the game.

"The Tide ended the game with 15 penalties, all of which took place in the first three quarters, resulting in 100 total penalty yards. According to ESPN Stats & Info, that’s the most penalties committed and accepted by an Alabama team in the Saban era.

On the other hand, Texas notched just five penalties for thirty yards in the loss.

I swear I feel like I watched a different game than some of the retards on here. The game I watched Alabama could barely break the huddle without getting a flag thrown on them.

Because they absolutely couldn’t. The calls on Bama were 95% legit.

But it doesn’t matter. We had multiple opportunities and didn’t capitalize when it mattered. Gg see you next year.

I didn't say they weren't legit. They were. My point is that the refs were not taking it easy on us, at all.

Not if he’s down with possession of the ball before the contact. He’s like an RB at that point and the call is unnecessary roughness after the play. Then it’s a safety and Bama free kicks from 35 instead of the 20.

The worst was the missed holding on Bryce Young’s scramble on the winning drive on the edge. It was so obvious that the ref grabbed for his flag yet didn’t throw it. It cost them more than the safety no call shite show

That safety they took off the board was by far one of the worst calls I have ever seen.

How can you take a call that was never made off the board?

Tell us you didn't even watch the game without telling us that you didn't watch the game.

No arguments from me!

The no call PI on the Sanders was BS. Hands on the receiver for 10 yards, riding him out of bounds, DB never turns his head to look for the ball. Duh!!!

You clearly see the hold and the outstretched arms of the OL.
Holding not called on QB scramble.

No call pulling Worthy's facemask
Facemask no call

Another no call pulling Worthy's facemask. Note the Ref staring at Worthy at the beginning of the gif.
A different face mask not called

There was a flag, for roughing (meaning the QB was down in the end zone, Safety!) and targeting, reviewed play, no targeting was confirmed, should have been a Safety, but wait, I didn't mean to call roughing the passer, because that would mean he was down, so let's review if he was down, which was confirmed by the picture above, but wait, he wasn't down a second time right before the throw, so he wasn't down, so no roughing, no targeting and no safety.

Texas should have let Bijan run twice, instead of giving a Card a chance to get sacked, which he did.

OP was correct.

The so called safety was not a blown call. It was never supposed to be a safety. Receiver was in the area when he threw the ball.

Top teams always get calls bro. We use to get them when were the top dog. It’s good for college football powers to keep the powers at the top.

Check out the Arkansas Florida game from 2009. Most egregious ref calls of all time. Why? Bc the SEC has a lot to lose when it’s #1 team is getting pushed out of the national title picture. As long as Bama is consistently good they will always get the majority of calls. We use to get them when we had Tebow, not anymore. Lol
