The question is will Texas (boosters) agree to pay their players like bama does to assure saban has the talent he needs...

Huh? Are you under the impression this thread is about Chizik, Gus, and Trooper? If so, don't worry -- I seriously doubt Texas will go after Gus. So your coaching situation is safe...until Auburn realizes he doesn't have Cam anymore.

Don't think UT would be more willing to pay what Bama would be willing to. Just because they have it, doesn't mean they'd outbid and outspend. There's a limit to what a value someone is to everyone.

There's this as well. Let's say we have to pony up some more cabbage to keep Saban happy.

What then? We have to rely on the connections and business acumen of Bill Battle to rais--

Oh wait, Battle has those in spades.

Here's the deal - Saban did agree in principle. The boosters then went to Mack to convince him to resign. It didn't work - it was NOT a cordial conversation. Deloss & the Admin were left completely out. Of course, with the Regents on board, Deloss was left somewhat neutered concerning the matter. But Saban was ready to make the deal. It is a fact.

I call bullshite...if UT was willing to drop the big dollas on Saban and his assistants why wouldn't they just go all in and buy-out Mack Brown's contract as well. They would have to buy him out anyway. So Saban agreed to come to UT "in principal" but becuase Mack said he wasn't ready to retire, they (UT) dropped the matter? All we hear about is how much money UT has but they wouldn't just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy-out Mack?

I think Texas has a lot more to offer and that they'll get Saban, if he has any real interest.

From Saban's view, I think he'll approach it more as a form of early retirement. Alabama was easy to recruit, but Texas doesn't require recruiting, so he can just sit back and enjoy himself for 10 years, like Mack did.

I would LOVE to see Saban go there and just take a vacation at the effing longhorns' expense.

Perhaps because Tejas has been shitting the bed the past couple seasons. They want him gone whether Saban is coming or not

That's another thing. Who's to say that Mack being asked to retire was contingent upon Saban's interest in the job? Mack has been eating millions of dicks every day practically ever since the morning of January 8, 2010.

No lil feller. This thread is about the coach of the program that has been on continuous probation for almost two decades and pays its top players in the 6 figure range. Cars, houses, checks, suits, flights, hotels, AND straight cash "homey".

B.S. Five figures at most. They couldn't even win the bidding war for Cam.

You can call bullshite if you want. The deal fell apart because, "UT" wasn't involved officially. This was a booster engineered offer and it was the boosters who tried unsuccessfully to get Mack to retire. The Prez, AD, and probably a good portion of the Regents didn't know what was going on. The boosters essentially thought they were on good enough terms with Mack that they could finesse him and I'm sure a buyout was part of their pitch - but it was bungled. They were not there on official UT business and none of the admin was on board.

Six son. Trent drove 3 different vehicles all estimated over $30k AND his family got relocated and got to house sit.

Maybe 5 figures in cash, but easily 6 figures in total.

It was after the NC game... Saban's still at Bama.

...because Mack's still at UT. Wait for that retire/fire to start the fall of the dominoes.

I call bullshite for multiple reasons.

1) You can't consistently spell "Saban" correctly.

2) You're bringing 'insider information' with nothing to back it up.

3) Potato.

None of those imply ownership. Even if you count the $30k cars -- and that's arguable -- that's $90k. And nobody's going to count "house-sitting." I've house-sat before and the owners refused to let me sell it to that nice elderly couple who came buy to make an offer.

Sorry, but Auburn just pays more, and pays more permanently.

Other than the desire to show that he can rebuild another failing big program, WTF would Saban go to Texas? Really? Money? Don't think so. Shitty conference. Aint happening.

I think the AP is essentially backing up my info. Duly noted on the bad spelling.

Texas was always the one college job I could have seen Saban leave Alabama for. I always found all the Penn State, West Virginia, LSU return, and Cleveland Browns talk laughable. I wouldn't be totally shocked if he did leave after this year especially if we win it all again. What else would there be to prove or accomplish?

Having said all, that I kinda see Saban coaching at Alabama for about 3 more seasons and leaving for an absolute picture perfect setup with an NFL team. An NFL team gives him a sweet deal and he gives the NFL one more shot. The Kirby Smart era will then begin and the train will keep on rolling smoothly just like Oregon has.

LOL....sounds like Tom Hicks runs the UT Athletic Department about as succesfully as he ran the Rangers, Stars, and Liverpool....that is straight into the ground....this sounds like Auburn's Jetgate which was also full of fail.

I'd buy this, except I actually read the AP article.

I don't recall anything about it being a "done deal" or "agreed upon in principle."

In fact, Saban's level of interest was tellingly left out of the piece.

You're full of shite, and your program will continue to suck shite into perpetuity. Just one more coach and team Saban has processed.
