I'm tellin you. Every invited tryout player that participates in an NFL minicamp gets a daily per diem plus expenses. Contract or no contract. No one walks on a field for free.

The Texas Longhorns made a notable addition to their fall camp roster earlier this month by bringing back offensive lineman Cole Hutson for one more year of college football. Hutson was granted another season after suing the NCAA and being given a TRO.
Despite missing all of spring and summer workouts, this meant Hutson would be reuniting with the team that he had spent the previous four years with, doing so after participating in rookie minicamp with the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns.

ETA: He entered the NFL draft. According to these SEC rules that they are trying to enforce, that means that he is not eligible to come back to play this year.

So he just tried out for the Dallas Cowboys just for kicks? Too late for a construction job or bag boy at HEB? If Dallas had wanted to sign him young Hutson would have said, "no, thank you,Coach. I'm going back to Austin to complete my studies"?

I do see they get a per diem rate of 130-200 dollars a day. Unfortunately for your point, neither the SEC or the NFL considers that a professional contract.
