Texas is way out there

The Notre Dame thread led me to looking at how far they are compared to our most outlying member; Texas. This led me to one surprising fact.
South Bend, Indiana is closer for more SEC schools than Texas is. The only ones closer to Texas are:
- Oklahoma
- Arkansas
- LSU
- MSU (almost even)

Calling Grok ….
When you calculate the simple geographic centroid (average of latitude and longitude of the 16 main campuses/stadiums), the point falls in northern Alabama, very close to Cullman, AL.
Approximate coordinates of the SEC centroid: ~34.35°N, 86.85°W.
This is roughly 15–20 miles northeast of Cullman, AL, and about 45 miles north of Birmingham.
Here are the approximate straight-line (as-the-crow-flies) distances from Cullman, Alabama to the main campus/stadium location of each current SEC school. Distances are rounded to the nearest 5 miles.
SEC School | City / Campus Location | Distance from Cullman, AL
Alabama | Tuscaloosa, AL | 80 miles
Arkansas | Fayetteville, AR | 450 miles
Auburn | Auburn, AL | 115 miles
Florida | Gainesville, FL | 415 miles
Georgia | Athens, GA | 205 miles
Kentucky | Lexington, KY | 320 miles
LSU | Baton Rouge, LA | 370 miles
Mississippi State | Starkville, MS | 165 miles
Missouri | Columbia, MO | 470 miles
Oklahoma | Norman, OK | 600 miles
Ole Miss | Oxford, MS | 145 miles
South Carolina | Columbia, SC | 345 miles
Tennessee | Knoxville, TN | 190 miles
Texas | Austin, TX | 650 miles
Texas A&M | College Station, TX | 570 miles
Vanderbilt | Nashville, TN | 105 miles
The straight-line distance from Cullman, Alabama to South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame campus / Notre Dame Stadium) is approximately 485 miles.

Idk what’s worse. A team being further away from SEC offices than Notre Dame, or having a team make the playoffs and then begging their permanent rival to borrow their coaches so they can maybe win one game.

Nobody but that's not what this thread is about. Texas is too far away. That's the point.

This literally never happened. Stop consuming meth.

If this is an indirect way of saying we should go back to 12 teams, I’m in

I’ve been to many Aggie away games over the years.
Bar none—and it’s not even close—the ND/Chicago trip in 2000 was the worst one. And that’s including the unfortunate interactions typically held with the obnoxious fanbase in Boulder, CO.
Of course, others disagree; I’m just speaking to my experience.

Oh interesting……you’re saying LSU offensive staff isn’t in the Ole Miss facilities showing yall had to beat mighty Tulane? Do you think they will wear Ole Miss or LSU clothes on the sideline?

Texas should buy Louisiana, Alabama & Mississippi.
Problem solved.
eta: Nicer roads are a bonus.

Agreed.
In 2025, SEC travel-distance complaints are mostly moot. Flying is flying, whether it’s 200 miles or 2,000.
The only folks who truly care about mileage is/are the RV crowd who want every game within a tank of gas.
For everyone else, you board a plane and land two hours later … no matter where the opponent is.

As the crow flies. Due to having to driving across the Tenn Tom Waterway and circling Bankhead National Forest I'd think you could actually drive there faster from Starkville. frick I don't want to work today.

But Texas fought on the right side of the war.

Wish we could mute fans of teams for the rest of the CFB season once they become irrelevant for that season. It would be nice to not have to listen to LSU fans crying out for attention, for the next month or 2.
