NW and SW Oklahoma are Western.

NE Oklahoma is more of a Midwest feel.

SE Oklahoma is easily Southeastern.

A fair summation. But there is a lot of 'southern' in NE OK as well. Hunting, fishing and overall cultural activities that are common in the south are equally prevalent in NE OK.
An earlier poster on this thread identified OK as a 'country' state i.e. not necessarily a 'southern' state, which has some truth to it. Roy Clark, Reba McEntire, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Blake Shelton, Ronnie Dunn, Mel McDaniel, Hoyt Axton, Roger Miller and many other Country musicians all either hail from OK or developed lifelong ties to the state.
p.s. the nickname 'Little Dixie' has never applied to the whole state of OK - just the SE corner.

Appalachian and Acadian/Creole are about on level for me as being a gradient upon which you have southern on one end and decidedly not southern on the other. It really depends on your up bringing and where you are within a state. Like Florida, you can draw lines within states and to make a case for what is and isn’t Southern but it’s harder to do with Appalachia. Hell, you can probably take a single town in West Va and classify half its population as Southern and the other as Midwestern country (which is why I tend to just not consider West Va as Southern; it’s close but not all the way).

And as referenced elsewhere, you can also parse out South vs Deep South. For example, a case can be made for many parts of VA being Southern but Deep South it is not.

My biggest issue is the conflation of someone who lives a country lifestyle as also being Southern. Southern incorporates way more than just country lifestyles and drawls. There are country folks in Wyoming but I don’t think they’d agree to be identified as Southern.

Can't disagree w/any of this.
