The revisionist history is kinda funny. A Bob-Stoops-led team would still consistently rack up 9-3 type seasons. His last year coaching led OU to a 35–19 win over #14 Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.

Sark knew the personnel assignment moving into the SEC and had the 'Horns ready before their first year in the conference, dishing out one of Saban's last OOC losses in 2023.

Playing up (and down) to competition was a glaring weakness of both programs during the B12 twilight years. 2017 OU went on the road to beat #2 Ohio State, 31–38, but narrowly lost to Iowa State just three weeks later. 2019 Texas played LSU closer than the rest of the SEC did-- that game ended 38-45 from a busted play 3rd-and-17, when Burrow connected with Jefferson. Texas later lost to OU in Dallas and TCU in Fort Worth that year.

The potential in both programs was always there; now both are better for SEC weekly competition.

Mark Stoops did that with Kentucky from 2016 to 2023. Mark is not Bob and Kentucky is a far cry from OU.

Mark Stoops did that in a weaker SEC east and is now fired.

Stoops was 4-6 in BCS games while probably ranked #1 in all of them.

Actually its logical observation.

Oklahoma was consistently way overrated during his tenure due to a weak Big 12 schedule.

4-6 in BCS games, including crushing losses to LSU, USC, Florida, and the memorable loss to Boise State.

They would win 7-9 games in an SEC schedule in his day with those teams.

Good post. But on Stoops' 35-19 win in the Sugar Bowl, it happened only because Auburn didn't want to be there.

I guess Oklahoma didn't want to win any titles games against the SEC either.

They just didn't want to be there.

Regret ending up in the SEC when the B12 became crap? no

Regret what has happened to CFB over the last 25 years? yes

I maybe watch 4-5 OU games a year now and maybe 5 other big matchups total.

Back in the mid 2000s I used to watch every game I could including the mid week MAC game with a six pack and yell at the screen...i had money on the game.

conference realignment, NIL, portal, blah blah, money money. I barely recognize the sport.

I got better things to do.

Yeah well I also remember early-2000s SEC offenses running "3 yards and a cloud of dust," behind a fullback. Saban forced his staff to adopt modern speed and spread after A&M moved in and brought the spread with Sumlin. Then Auburn rehired Gus Malzahn to tool their offense and beat Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl, while Ole Miss went uptempo with Hugh Freeze.

B12 Texas and OU may not have been as deep or athletic in the trenches as SEC teams were at that time but they had speed and creativity on offense to move the ball at a time when the SEC hadn't yet modernized.

I regret that Sategna fumbled a punt return versus Mississippi.

I regret Special Teams letting that Nipple kid score on a punt return versus Texas.

I regret Jackson Arnold fumbling versus Missouri last season.

At this point if the question is regret over Oklahoma being in the SEC you might ask fans of Auburn and Alabama.

No regrets. These two seasons have been a blast. I’m sad that change is surely coming, so I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

Texas has competed for conference championships and chased national titles since joining the SEC. We choked the off-season/portal, but we’re still on track for disappointing 10 win season. We’ll be right back in the mix. That is unless we have more losses than some fringe P4 team with a SOS in the 50’s. Well then we’ll be sitting at home again.

Arizona State won the Big 12 last year, Texas Tech this year. In 2 years in the SEC, you guys have one championship appearance combined and 0 conference titles. Do you think life would be easier if you had stayed in the Big 12? Are the benefits of the SEC worth not being the kings any longer?
It was totally expected, and I have ZERO regrets. OU and Texas were supposedly "not SEC ready", and in two years, each has made the playoff. I don't know about Texas (and don't really care), but I KNOW OU is better off in the long term for the move.

nope, love it. What happened to Texas this year they can only blame themselves for. Going into a monster line of scrimmage league with a short bus o-line.

I'm a little disappointed in the SEC honestly. I was told Texas and OU would get their shite stomped weekly, yet both have made the playoffs in the two years since being inducted.

SEC teams that haven't since then:
-LSU
-Auburn
-State
-Vandy
-Florida
-Mizzou
-Arkansas
-Kentucky
-South Carolina

But you guys were the 5th team taken? Why spin it as if you guys won the league.
