Message Posted by oklahogjr I'll take florida in this one.....aTm doesn't have a defense. Florida's defense will be able to handle the aTm offense.

Its not as bad as you think this past year. They were an above average D that struggled with creating turnovers and getting off the field on 3rd & long.

Playing SEC offenses will help our D rather than hurt it. But, we have an entire new coaching staff and changing from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

Lots of intrigue next year. New coaches, new conference, new QB. Should be a fun ride

Ok. I'll continue to play point/counter point a little longer

The SEC, without aTm in it, has reeled off all those BCSNC due to DL play. We'll see how aTm fairs against it.

Are you implying an SEC team can't have a good OL because of SEC DLs? And we don't have to play the last 6 national champions every week. OL is not a concern.

So, playing against B12 and C-USA is like playing SEC teams?

No, but he beat CUSA teams with CUSA talent. He also beat larger schools with less talent. I'm concerned about defense because I don't think we have SEC talent and depth on that side of the ball but offenses can win with lesser talent with good schemes. Luckily we won't have lesser talent, just inexperience at QB

Most likely but more because of defense. We won't be in the top 10 for total offense like we were this year but we will score enough points to give us a chance to win most games. A road trip to Bama is the only game I look at and could see us struggling to score

Of course not. Ask Richardson or Ingram about OLine play at UA. They will also tell you that iron strengthens iron...and the OL's of the SEC age as good as they are because of who they play week to week.

You will be playing in the league, and more specifically the division, that garnered the most..

OL is not a concern.

Alright. It won't be a concern. aTm is going to come into the SEC West and road grade everyone.

Arkansas has a passing O that I would say rivals the best the B12 has to offer. Ask them about playing SEC Ds.

UF and LSU and AU at JHS are no biggies, huh?

no it won't SEC offenses are just as good at what they do as anyone else is in the country, however they are a different style.

this is what i'm most interested in. How does the coach handle the explanation that this will be tougher than the big 12. He doesn't even know quite what he has gotten into. Also how does he teach the qb to be ready for a huge step up from big 12 backup to SEC starter.

I'd like to think we will be motivated enough to show up and win that game, which is well within reach. But we have a well known history of losing games we should win. I won't make a call yet, really could go either way.

I love this one The average rantard knows exactly what A&M has "gotten themselves into" but Kevin Sumlin does not. The man has coached in all 5 BCS bowls. He's a football junkie. I'm willing to bet he's watched a little SEC ball in his life

A&M loses Tannehill, Fuller, and Gray.

Florida's D will dominate them

You sound well informed of A&M football. I hear we aren't even replacing them. We said frick it and decided to play 8 on 11

And that's why Florida will win while TAMU's making these changes florida has had a year to season and they win this one on the road by 10-13 points.

With all respect, I don't think Sumlin has a better reputation as an offense guru than Petrino. And Petrino, in year 4 of his tenure, had his offense(with better receivers than the aggies and the first team All SEC QB at the helm) completely stuffed by Bama and LSU.

Not sure what Florida will bring to the table next yr, but I will say that the Ags' belief that their brand new offense will be "just fine" in the SEC is dubious

There will be a few bumps along the way. And I'll go out on a limb and say that Bama and LSU are going to crush your O next year. Some others will out score you as well, but those two are going to crush you

You may need 13 to win it!
look at TAMU'S defense last year it sucked like 59th in the nation! That won't be pretty in the SEC.You put up a few against ARKY but their D was ranked 47th so it's not like you gonna come into the SEC and contend for the West. Let's see: Florida=Win ; Arky=Win ; LSU=Win ; Auburn=? ; Miss St=Win ;Bama=Win

We had I think 4 true freshman on D when we played the aggies because of injuries. There was also a bit of a post-Bama 'hangover' that we had to shake as well

This doesn't have to happen in order for OL to not be a concern.

Look at it this way 7-5 still goes bowling.I think 2-3 years you could contend for 4th or 5th if Chizik doesn't turn around West Georgia!

Doc, I didn't say we would be better than Arkansas' offense next year. I would be very happy if we were that good on offense next year. I love the Peteino's as far as coaching offense.

And I already said I thought scoring at T-town would be tough. LSU's defense doesn't scare me near as much at Kyle Field as it would have on a Saturday night in Death Valley

And in a way too early prediction I'm expecting the Ags to go 7-5 next year

Do you know what kind of offenses A&M faced last year?

They played the number 2, 3, 5, 12, and 13 total offenses.

They played 6 offenses in the top 25 in passing, with 4 of those teams being in the top 7.

Our defensive numbers are reflective of who we played. ONE team had more pass attempts against them than us. The passing numbers are also inflated because we always had double digit leads at half time (yes, many of which we squandered).

The defense also led the nation in sacks and gave up less yards per rush than everyone but Bama and Fl. State.

It was not a flat out bad defense, just not very opportunistic and prone to giving up big plays due to busted coverages at bad times. How do I know this? Because they gave up less yards per play than 13 of the top 25 defenses.
