That might have been the place of his birth (not sure), but he was raised in Blount County, Maryville, TN. When he ran off into the Cherokee Nation as a teenager, two of my ancestors, who shared a fence line with the Houston family, went with two of his brothers to bring him back.

President Polk from Tennessee admitted Houston's Texas republic into the union.

Texas gave Tennessee their best pro football team.
