What is/are the problem(s)? Do you think Pruitt will be able to right the ship? Do you think he'll be given the time and authority to do it? If not Pruitt, then who?

I thought that Willie Taggart was a great coach but then he went to Oregon and couldn't win with a power program in a relatively weak conference.

I have a few friends who are major Oregon fans and while they were a bit annoyed at how he left, they weren't that upset that he left. I get the same vibe that Wisconsin fans were giving off when Bert left to take the Arkansas coaching gig.

Almost zero talent on Tennessee's roster. Haven't followed it closely enough/followed recruiting at all this year so don't have much of an opinion on Pruitt. Seems like he certainly knows Xs and Os better than any of our coaches since Kiffin, but that's not saying much.

At this point I follow it more for entertainment than I do with any kind of W/L expectation. As RG said, Pruitt hitting a player or having some sort of meltdown or scandal would be almost best case scenario as far as I'm concerned.

For all its money and resources, Texas has become a perennial 7-5 program since Mack Brown retired. USC and Florida are hardly the giants they were a decade ago either. Notre Dame may post gaudy records every now and then, but it's mostly smoke and mirrors. Even mighty Alabama was one more bad hire away from being mired in mediocrity.

No program is immune.

Hate that for y'all. And Yes, the SEC is better with a healthy Tennessee to balance out the West. If Pruitt doesn't work out, I'm not so sure I wouldn't offer some A List coach a stupid contract to come in and fix it.

Saban, Meyer, Swinney, Petersen, or Patterson.

4 year, $60-80M guaranteed and whatever resources/authority he wants. At this point, I really don't think UT has another option outside of buying a proven winner. There is a culture problem up there.

Honestly if Pruitt doesn’t work and the roster is in shambles IDK if we could buy a good proven winner. Program might be done...

Jimmy is 1-5 against Michigan State and Ohio State. That stings more than a loss at home to App State.

Harbaugh is the greatest coach in CFB! Just ask Skip Bayless!!!!!!!!!!

Pruitt will build that roster back to where it needs to be. It's year one with a roster that has no depth. If we're here in year three, then I'll start to worry. Right now, I'm ok with how things are unfolding

Money talks and bullshite walks. I think UT could do it, there is pedigree there, but I think it would cost a lot of money.

I think a large part of what makes programs good, is the level of commitment and resources these coaches get from top down.

UT has the resources to lure a top-notch coach there. The AD just needs to do it instead of settling for these mid-level coaches, many of whom cut their HC teeth at UT only to flop.

Listen. I've said it already, but it's probably going about the way Phil Fulmer wants it to go. The last AD had a deal with Mike Leach, who had agreed to terms and was ready to sign on. Fulmer stabs that AD in the back and kills the Leach deal, who would have been the best UT coach since Lane Kiffin that one year. Leach would probably have succeeded, and that would preclude Fulmer eventually taking over as head coach.

There's a reason Pruitt started 2 freshman and played a 3rd a lot in the defensive backfield against one of the best QBs in the country against WV....UT is VOID of talent in a big way. IMO we are going to see more youth starting going forward in the front 7. Not going to win much with the seniors we have so might as well take lumps now building for the future...I think the OL will improve each week once they get the right combo playing together....There was 2 that started on the OL against WV that I will be surprised if we see starting going forward. Right now UT has bottom fourth of the SEC talent on defense and that's being kind. Not going to beat good teams with that talent.

I have no idea why FSU went after that guy at that point. They looked dead last night. They have the weapons to compete but the wheels fell off the wagon last night. Even if they are abysmal, they won't be able to get rid of Taggart after this year so they are looking at years of this.

FSU looked atrocious last night, but I'm surprised how everyone seems to be giving up on Taggart after one game.

He took over a 4-8 team at Oregon, and they were 6-1 when Justin Herbert went down. He has left every program he's been at in better shape than what he inherited.

Maybe he won't work out in Tallahassee, but I think he has a better shot to turn things turned around before Harbaugh or Pruitt.

[quote]To early to tell for FSU but I suspect Tagg is gone in three years. They are the easiest to build back up though. Michigan is done. They just can't get the ship fixed for some reason. Tenn is...fricked[/quote

WOW!! An Iowa fans gets it! It does not take but a couple busts on the recruiting trail and another school to chuck tons of cash at your coach and any school can end up the way UT, Michigan, FSU have.

How quickly the Bama fans have forgotten the mike shula years or the Franchione years. Remember when Auburn was 3-9?

Fulmer is not going to take over as head coach. there is no way he does that and ruins his legacy. He said he would have during the search but that would have been last resort. He is now on to bigger ego things, like trying to get the football team, back, women's basketball team back, Track and field back, and the softball and soccer teams near the top. If he can do that then his legacy will be the best ever at UT and he can ride off into the sunset with a couple of donuts. Don't let the fact the he turned Bama in and paid nothing for it cloud your judgement.

Tenn would’ve been better off with Leach. At least there’d be excitement and offense.

Schiano would’ve been a good hire but the fan base went full retard bc it thought Tenn deserved so much better.

UCF has really hurt FSU on the recruiting trail. I mean for god's sake they are the defending National Champions
