One of the early blows to Auburn’s 2021 recruiting class came in April last year when 4-star OLB Dylan Brooks committed to Tennessee over Auburn.
The major factor in that decision was his relationship with Jeremy Pruitt. The two were close and upon being assured by Phillip Fulmer that Pruitt would still be in charge next season, Brooks elected to sign early with the Vols.
Then Tennessee blew everything up. Following the firing of Jeremy Pruitt and Phillip Fulmer’s retirement, Brooks immediately wanted out of his National Letter of Intent and filed for a release with the school. The Vols have since drug their feet, hoping that Brooks might give the new staff a chance before making a final decision.
When it became clear that wouldn’t happen, Tennessee reportedly elected to free him from his NLI but block any transfers within the SEC.quote:That lead to some pretty heated criticism from major media outlets and some high school football coaches in the state of Alabama. Remember, this new Tennessee staff also pulled 3-star Roc Taylor’s offer the day before signing day sending his coach into a rage.
Handley star and @Vol_Football signee Dylan Brooks has now been released from his Letter of Intent by @Vol_Football only under the condition he not sign with another @SEC team. Extremely petty move by @coachjoshheupel and @AD_DannyWhite. @NCAA should not allow this to happen.
It appears the pressure worked as it’s now being reported that Dylan Brooks has been granted a complete release from his NLI and is free to transfer anywhere in the country.quote:Poor Coach G. He’s lost Brooks twice....
Just spoke with @_dylanbrooks: @Vol_Football assistant Rodney Garner just called him and “told me they will now allow me to transfer to any school. I’m free.”
Now that the four star is free he can be recruited again and I fully expect Auburn to pounce on the opportunity. The Tigers are reportedly the overwhelming favorite to land Brooks’s next pledge and it wouldn’t shock me if it happened pretty quickly. His commitment would move Auburn’s 2021 class to #20 in 247 Composite’s Team Rankings.
Time to come home Dylan.

It was shitty of UT to allow these kids to sign then fire their coach.

Agreed. If a head coach is fired after a kid signs but before he plays his first game, he should be automatically granted an unconditional release of his NLI. It should be standard language in the NLI, IMO.

Generally believe in stipulations but not in that case. Sec should over rule it and allow him to transfer where he wants.

Fulmer had no intention of firing Pruitt. All of this was a Haslam power play. They dug to get Pruitt out because they wanted Fulmer out and Fulmer was never going to hire whoever came next. IOW, neither the AD nor the HC thought anyone was getting fired.

It's shitty of AU to allow any kid to sign and force to live in their cow town

They sign up to play at a school not a coach. Pruitt was already hanging by a thread when he signed.

Not really. Auburn has an entirely new staff outside of Carnell Williams. They salvaged and added to the class with 3 weeks remaining until NSD.

This drop's Tennessee below Ole Miss in the 2021 rankings. Ole Miss is now officially #Big6

Nice! Lane Kiffin and the Rebs move up to #17 nationally and #6 in the SEC.

Don’t believe the JOX reporter.
He’s been waffling for the last 24 hours. As reported by Austin Price, when they officially released him it was unconditionally. JOX loser was just spreading unverified claims. He tried to claim UT staff was ignoring him when he wouldn’t take Heupel’s calls and never lost contact with Garner.
