I negotiate contracts for a living. Typically an MOU is not binding. However, in some the parties may designate it as binding.
I doubt UT is on the hook for the whole buyout. However, if they did not deal in good faith a good legal team could make a case. UT caused him harm. At a minimum, they should offer to reimburse his costs to negotiate a contract. Would make any other claims less likely.
I'm not an attorney and don't know the parameters of any agreements they may have had. One other thing that most negotiations will include is that it is subject to Management approval.
There is a lot to sort out.

UT caused him harm

He spent money on attorneys to negotiate the contract. By legal definition he is harmed because he is out the money spent.
Not arguing that he did something wrong in the past.
Interesting that the first thing you did was throw out insults without understanding the legal issues.

I mean, Tennessee is going to pay him something to avoid this thing dragging out. This might lower that number.

Tennessee settles this for a couple of polaroid cameras and one of those phones that can only dial emergency numbers in case Schiano walks in upon further crimes.

I get what you are saying here for sure.
I go thru all the hard work knocking out terms with our Legal dept. Then have a quick final 30 or so min review giving our CFO the final sell, get the ok, and then have the other party sign. Once I get it back signed from them I respond with "I'll send you the fully executed contract when I get it" which means it's not done yet. So yeah I get bugged daily until it's returned cause they also know it's not done yet. Ha.
I have the power to fully negotiate on our behalf, but my signature on any contract doesnt mean jack. Nor can I commit us to anything.

Besides, I'm not worried about Schiano. No way in hell he wants this in the news because a suit only brings up the issue of Penn St. and he'd have to testify or give a depo under oath. He wants no part of that.
In what way would a breach of contract suit require him to answer questions about Penn State?
Would it also obligate UT to answer questions about past rape incidents by former players?

So y'all cheated the dude. Congrats, more bad karma for UT. Just what you needed.
