I don't count that stuff I'm sorry if that ruffles horse people's feathers but fancy horse riding should not be put in the same category as a team sport like football, basketball, baseball/softball, Volleyball, hell rowing

Ummm....So you include rowing but not the others

I know some people can make a good argument for many of those sports and have made arguments to olympic committees and such but.... I mean come on we gotta draw the line somewhere

Swimming/running from point a to point b faster than the other guy is an athletic accomplishment - putting the ball in the basket the ball in the endzone the ball in the net the puck in the net is an athletic accomplishment - doing flips in the air landing to score.....okay I don't know how gymnastics works but that is athletic accomplishment

are we really comparing riding a horse or shooting a gun to all that?

Rowing is getting from point a to point b by physically moving a row boat with the power of your teams collective bodies

that's an athletically difficult thing to do

I put that way way wayyyyy above riding the horse over the bars or shooting a rifle real good

Something about how football championships aren't NCAA championships.

All of the other sports have NCAA-sanctioned tournaments or events to determine champions. Major college football doesn't. The Division 1 FBS champion isn't technically an NCAA champion. However, the Division 1 FCS champion is.

Right, but wikipedia had football listed for most other schools, so I was just quickly scanning and adding the titles listed and for LSU it doesn't for whatever reason.

Honest question, where are those?

Everything I see says A&M has 17 team titles (including 1919, 1927 and 1939 in football).

Mens Golf : 1
Mens Outdoor Track : 4
Womens Basketball : 1
Womens Outdoor Track : 4
Womens Softball : 2
Mens Football : 3
Womens Equestrian : 2
Womens Softball : 1

TOTAL : 17

57 and 17 are pretty different figures

Some sports, like softball weren't ncaa sanctioned. For instance A&M's softball championship in 1982 came from AIAW Championship.

But that one is counted above. I mean, 40 is a big number. Was Texas A&M winning track titles in 1938 or something?

The Texas A&M Website only claims 27, and that includes 11 Equestrian National Titles.

On the NCAA website, all the sports are listed but Equestrian.
