I'd almost rather go 5-7 than 8-4 for the long term benefit of the program

Good to see Vol Nation has all their own problems fixed so that they can focus on LSU's problems. Any chance you beat Alabama before Saban retires?

LSU will beat A&M. It’s a throw away season for us and we want to make sure Ed O can keep getting paid the big bucks.

LSU lost to Troy this year and still went 9-3. They aren’t going 5-7 next year.

Why is everyone counting this as an automatic loss?

Whenever someone starts a thread and says they're going to be realistic, they're going to do the opposite. If you haven't noticed, every LSU prediction thread is a troll thread and is nothing more than people taking every questionable game and saying LSU will lose that game. No one actually expects LSU to go 5-7

we're losing what, 13 starters? Off a team that, on the whole, was a bit of a disappointment? And on top of that we're replacing BYU and Tennessee with Miami and Georgia?

it could definitely happen.

Kirby has remade UGA into a program that so far looks a lot like Bama, and has some absolute studs coming in.

isn't uga losing most of their defense?

Y'all dumbasses laughed at Miles for years. His departure isnt the problem.

Exactly, his replacement is the problem. Many parallels between Richt/Miles and the state of each program towards the end. For UGA it worked out about as well as could possibly hope for, and took our "pretty good/sometimes really good" team to the next level in short order. LSU on the other hand hired somebody that hasn't worked out and took their "pretty good/sometimes really good" program and actually took them down a notch.

It's a crapshoot that worked for one program and not the other, but I agree the act of firing miles isn't LSU's problem. It's that they hired an incompetent buffoon in his place.

I only see 3 probably L's and 4 Toss up's.

9-3 would be best case scenario but of course there is an apocalyptic 5-7 possibility I guess.

Avg case is probably 7-5 or 8-4.

We lose 2 DL, 2 CBs, 3 LBs, and 1 safety.

Losses:
-1 CB was a converted walkon that played admirably
-1 CB the entire country just watched get repeatedly torched in the NCG
-Roquan is roquan, that hurts
-the 2 OLBs made some big time plays in big games but game in/game out could have done more
-the safety was a ballhawk that played far above his 3* recruiting ranking
-Jon atkins was a reliable NG although not very noteworthy, and trent thompson despite all the physical talent was largely underwhelming

Replacements:
-Baker at 1 CB will be one of the best in the league, and on the other side tyrique mcgee held his own (played in every game I believe, if not every game then most)
-DL should be fine, as Tyler Clark actually played better than trent this year.
-ILB will be a question mark
-OLB we have guys that have played this season and played well in addition to very highly rated guys coming in
-at S/Star we have JR Reed back again, 5* richard lecounte, and a host of other young highly ranked guys

I have gone on record many times saying our defense will take a step back this year, and I expect that to be the case. What people need to realize though is that the 2017 defnese si going to be the least talented defense on paper for quite some time. We lose a lot of experience but replace it with a lot more talent.

I say they go 2-2 on toss ups. So they will end up 8-4, but finishing strong and saving O's job

Now play the same game, and put Les Miles back in charge.

I mean, this is pretty dishonest, too. Miles wasn't coaching this LSU team to 10 wins this year, and he likely wouldn't have done it next year either.

It's totally possible to still have wanted Miles fired, and to be pissed off that Orgeron was the new hire.

I say they beat Mississippi State, but wouldn't be surprised if they lost either. Otherwise, I agree with the OP's prediction. They go 6-6, with 7-5 being their absolute ceiling. If that's the case, Orgeron and Alleva are gone pecan, and I would be absolutely ecstatic.

worst case scenario IMO. Not making any real noise but keeping O in place.
