All officers that are not Oxford PD or Lafayette County Sheriff were deputized over zoom. They will have authority.

I believe Oxford is looking for mounted patrol horse and officers.
NOPD has one of the best mounted patrol horse units int he county and they’re extremely comfortable with crowd control. I’m sure that was the thinking from Oxford PD.

Yes and no.
On security exchanges, I'd assume Oxford pays for lodging and meals/per diem.
The visting security force likely has their home jurisdiction pay for fuel and wages, as they treat the event as a training opportunity for crowd control. That said, I doubt a major sports/entertainment venue city, tourist attraction, and host city to the largest Mardi Gras in the US need a lot of "training" opportunities. So, yes, it makes sense for NOPD not to support to keep LEOs local andbsave tax dollars. Mobile makes more sense to justify the support should the city want to do so, even though they have similar events at a much smaller scale than NOPD.
They likely have no arrest/detention authorities and will be paired with Oxford or University PD officers who will handle any actual arrests/detentions.
