Its a reponse to a certain group needing to be coddled, and the virtue signalers in our disney gator fanbase on board with the coddling.
Nothing so far makes Jones stand out far above Philo

Last 2 games we saw of Philo the offense looked terrible. Couldn't even crack 20 points.
The offense seemed helpless. He misses WRs all over the place and has a weak arm.
Jones just won at Texas on the road after falling 2 TDs behind, give him the start and have Philo ready if needed.

Jones didn't rattle and crack vs Texas even with a slow start.
'Keep in mind this was his first start.
Philo faced an Ole Miss team at home that was weak vs the run and Baugh was shredding them.
Jones barely had a run game to depend on vs Texas.

Theres a portion of the fanbase that really cares about which color wrapping the QB comes in. Saw the same thing with Treon Harris

Except the last 3 games.
Miz & SC looked like complete disasters and resulted in losses.
Texas sucked less and resulted in a W.

Jones has more physical tools, but if that were all playing QB were about just put Baugh or Jayden Woods out there at QB.
Jones is a checkdown merchant and has been every time he has gotten a chance to play. Came in down big against Kentucky last year and did the same thing. Coaches said during spring practice multiple times that they need QBs to push the ball and take risks, those were clearly comments directed to try to get more out of Tramell in that department.
IDK if its him being scared, not able to make deep reads, or just trying not to throw picks. But its a trend at this point.

Is Jones really better than Philo or is there just less film of him for opponents to study? Is Philo banged up & Jones just healthy etc?
I dont know the answer but seeing y'all say Philo only looks bad in the last few games (after such a strong start) makes me wonder

He had a great run game with Baugh vs AU and Ole Miss.
Once Drink showed the country how to shutdown the run game, Philo hasn't done much since. Not saying he's the only problem but we've seen what has happened since we haven't been able to run it down opponents' throats.

Backup QBs with no tape typically play extremely well in their first start.
Once film is established we usually see why they’re the backup. Yes I know there are exceptions, but it rings true for most examples.

Gotcha, the fan reactions make a lot more sense now. Kirby's whole deal is shutting down the run game so Philo starting is great news.
I think UGA fans are still scared of Faulkner after the 2024 GT game. He's so good at creating that extra step of hesitation in defenders, I still expect y'all to score plenty of points.

You could say the same thing about Philo but you like the Graham Mertz type of QB so there's not much to say.

How do you typically beat Kirby's UGA defenses? Throw the ball down the field and a running QB. Jones has a stronger arm, and he's much faster, better runner. He beat Texas on the road. Philo's last 2 starts, we looked like Napiers' hapless shitty teams. So, let's start 2nd string Ga.Tech QB reject. With his amazing noodle arm, without his favorite dump off wr Bailey Stockton.
