He took the free undergrad and is now at Yale Law. If he'd gone to any Ivy for his bachelors, he still would've gotten into YLS, he'd just have almost 200K more in loans.

That's anecdotal evidence, which is irrelevant. Getting an undergrad from an Ivy makes it easier to get into any elite grad program. That's systematic -- as in on average in the aggregate. End of story.

You could replace Alabama with almost any flagship state school and it's still a smart financial move.

Until you're faced with closed doors because you didn't go to an Ivy.

Where is he going to go work with that Bama degree?

It ain't going to be somewhere in New York or Silicon Valley.

New York has alumni associations from all universities. Sure, some are more than others (Ivy, Duke, Michigan, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Colgate, etc), but you can find all schools represented well in NYC.

No schools on the planet offer more financial aid than Ivy league schools

This was the first thing that popped into my head.

And the other thing is why Alabama? Why not any one of the "public Ivies" around the country (i.e., Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia, Cal Berkeley, UCLA, etc.)

Haha, Apple's CEO attended Auburn, but yeah state schools suck and you need to spend $200k on an education if you want to be successful.

Yet another anecdote that is completely irrelevant to the average person.

Pretty unusual for students accepted to all of them to go outside the ivy league but all SEC schools are littered with students on great financial packages that turned down at least one Ivy league school.
This - I don't know why this is a story? UA has many Honor students that chose UA over the Ivy League schools. Why is this kid any different?

I don't know if you're bad at arguing or just a troll, but either way no one is taking your posts seriously

Your position is equally irrelevant. There are many paths and variables to your education and eventual career.

This is exactly like the "stars" argument for football recruits. Who needs 5 stars???! XXXX player was a 2-star and look what he did!

I will say that I agree this guy might be in a slightly more unique position in that he wants go to med school. If he were going for a business degree this would be a terrible decision.
