They can only hand out one loss to each team they play. 1 loss to a top ten team isn't dropping you that much. To have a shitty strength of schedule your opponents lose a lot more than just the 1 loss you handed them.

Its not a coincidence that both Alabama and Oklahoma have a questionable loss and a higher strength of schedule than the other top ranked teams. The key to a great strength of schedule is losing a lot, so that your opponents have a lot more wins.

This is false. This is not a simple win% based SoS metric.

These are advanced stats and are opponent adjusted. A team can actually gain respect in a loss against better teams if they play well.

The only thing that you can say in this regard is - you can't play yourself. So all the teams you played are going get a "bonus" for having played you, while you'll never get such a thing....unless you actually play tough teams. But to say winning hurts your SoS isn't correct.

This legitimately might be the dumbest, most retarded college football take I've ever come across.

How are they this high? Texas is the only SEC team they will play this year with more than 3 conference wins.

The entire SEC is generally seen as a tough conference. Compared to other SEC teams their schedule is weak. But replace all those bottom SEC teams they played with bottom Big10 teams... Pretty big difference.

Its honestly not that hard to understand. If two 12-0 teams play, who's strength of schedule improves? The team who gets to add a 13-0 team to their opponents played or the team that gets to add a 12-1 team to their opponents played? Now apply that same logic to every game played throughout the course of a season.

2020 nullifies your argument entirely.

In 2020, Alabama had the #6 SOS by the end of the year, having played a full schedule and therefor responsible for 13 losses for other teams.

Ohio State, despite being the cause for only 7 losses due to being gigantic pussies and hiding for half a season, had an SOS of 15.

Texas A&M, being the cause of 9 losses, had an SOS of 12.

BYU, OTOH, caused 11 losses for their opponents... and ended up with an SOS of 69 (nice).

By your inane logic, the toughest SOS would HAVE to be:
Ohio State
Texas A&M
BYU
Alabama

But in reality it was:
Alabama
Texas A&M
Ohio State
BYU

I could see how you could come to your conclusion if any math more difficult than 2+2 was something you consider "hard"

Can you please explain how A&M is expected to lose 1.5 games with one game left? Something seems off here.

It's the amount of losses an elite team(2 standard deviations above average) is expected to have if they played on your schedule, rather than a prediction.

Ohio State had the preseason number 1, 2, 12 and 14 on their schedule. Not their fault everyone shite the bed. the only thing they can control is dominate everyone and they have. 10-1 against the spread and the 1 loss was a late touchdown against the 3rd string defense.

This is what everyone says when their schedule sucks. But it doesn't really matter whose fault it is. It's a measurement. What happened is what happened. If another team played a tougher schedule, then they should be rewarded for it.

Not that it means all that much with the current format.

The main reason it happens in the Big10 and somewhat the SEC is because there are too many teams. It's very possible and basically happens every year that some school plays the bottom 8/9 and when you have 16+ teams those teams aren't going to be great.

SOS matters to the committee unless the team is Alabama

56 ohio state and 33 Indiana ahead of 32 Texas A&M

51 Texas Tech over 36 ole miss

25 Oregon over 14 Oklahoma

34 Notre Dame over 8 Alabama

51 Miami over 31 Vanderbilt

It’s not an Alabama problem. It’s an every single SEC school problem of strength of schedule having zero impact on CFP rankings

LSU really does owe the conference an apology for sucking so bad this season.
