Games use ti be played regardless of weather
It was October twentieth, nineteen fifty-six, at Kyle Field in College Station — Texas A&M beat fourth-ranked TCU seven to six in a game that got its name from the weather, not the teams.
Winds hit ninety miles an hour, rain and hail stopped play in the second quarter, and more than a hundred and fifty planes at Easterwood Airport got flipped over. The field turned into a hundred yards of pig slop.
The Aggies were coached by Bear Bryant, with John David Crow, Jack Pardee, and Gene Stallings in the lineup. Don Watson threw the game-winning touchdown to Crow, and the defense stuffed TCU’s All-American Jim Swink three times at the goal line to hold on. A&M finished that season nine and oh and one, winning the Southwest Conference.

Think the changes now are due to liability and the mass of people exposed to the possible danger.
Everyone is scared of getting sued.
They had a fishing tournament where it was foggy when they started. A couple boats ran into each other killed someone and now the tournament organizers are being sued because they didn't call it off. That's why they don't play when there is bad weather anymore
