Currently Stidham ranks fourth in all of FBS with a completion percentage of 68.5%. He ranks 11th in the country in passer rating.

Who are the three guys in front of him when it comes to completion pct?

1)Baker Mayfield
2)Mckenzie Milton
3)Jake Browning

In terms of passing defense though who have these three QB's played? Are they padding stats against weaker competition?

1)Baker Mayfield has faced ONE top 25 passing defense all year. That was #15 Ohio St.
2)Mckenzie Milton has faced ZERO top 25 passing defenses
3)Jake Browning has faced ONE top 25 passing defense. That was #8 Wash St.

So in relation to these three guys what has Stidham faced in terms of passing defenses?

Stidham has faced the #4 passing defense - Georgia
Stidham has faced the #6 passing defense - Alabama
Stidham has faced the #9 passing defense - Clemson
Stidham has faced the #13 passing defense - Miss St.
Stidham has faced the #24 passing defense - LSU

Stidham most definitely has faced a MUCH harder gauntlet of defenses than these other guys and that does have an effect statistically on you. These others are not even in the same ballpark! That's 5 passing defenses in the top 25 that Stidham has faced while the other contenders have at most faced 1.

So what about the 10 guys in front of Stidham when it comes to passer rating? Are they playing the same level of passing defenses? The 10 guys are:

1)Baker Mayfield - obviously no.
2)Mckenzie Milton - obviously no.
3)Justin Herbert - Has faced two top 25 passing d's
4)Logan Woodside - zero top 25 passing d's
5)Mason Rudolph - zero top 25 passing d's
6)Drew Lock - Has faced 4 top 25 passing defenses. I'm impressed.
7)Jake Fromm - clearly we saw he wasn't on Stidham's level when Auburn played Georgia earlier, but just in case, no, he hasn't faced as many top 25 passing D's as Stidham
8)JT Barrett - Has faced two top 25 passing defenses
9)Jordan Ta'amu - umm no just no
10)Will Grier - Has faced one top 25 passing defense

11)Stidham has faced 5 top 25 passing defenses.

Based on level of competition I don't see how you could make a reasonable argument for anyone over Stidham. Lock might have a case but no one else is even close.

He's not even remotely close. Mayfield is WAY WAY better.

And his high completion percentage is due in large part to a very big amount of his throws being quick screens. Those are high completion percentage plays.

Honestly he’s good. But he throws screens 80% of the time.

It is a shame that the Heisman has turned into a popularity contest. If Lock played for Notre Dame he would be running away with the award.

What? All of that shite is relative. Mayfield’s opponents play in a league full of wide open aerial passing attacks, of course those defenses will not look as good statistically as the defenses in a league with Hurts, Franks, Zaire, Etling, and Guarantano.

If you want to say he’s the best quarterback that’s fine. Most agree Mayfield is better, but Stidham is up there. To say Stidham is better because he’s played tougher competition doesn’t make any sense though. Carson Wentz played at North Dakota State and nobody was advocating that Jake Coker was better than him.

The bigger question is why can't Gus develop quarterbacks instead of having to get someone else's?

If he returns next year... o my.

to respond to the debate we always have on this board as to why Lock isnt that good, Mizzou is #1 in p5 with drop passes. A average wr core puts him as the #1 qb in football.

Mayfield is a massive douchebag, but he's a much better QB than Stidham.

Half of his yardage against Alabama cane from short slants and crossing routes to Ryan Grant.

He's efficient and athletic but he's not a top QB. He has potential but he has to improve down field before he's elite.

Is this some sort of joke? Literally half his passes against Alabama were screens, flat and quick slants.
