This will affect juniors leaving and recruiting.

you think the juniors on the team have a lot of loyalty to a coach that's been their coach for less than a calendar year? Especially if the new DC is a guy already on the staff?

So is Steele Saban's charity case? We all know what a kind human being Nick is.

Bobby Williams is proof that Saban is a charitable guy

He hired Lance Thompson a couple of times too.

Good luck with Nick's sloppy seconds.

He needs 6 more years. The notion that the retirement system played any part in his decision is completely false.

So the offer to buy years of service for him was bullshite?

As a LSU fan, this doesn't make me happy. I thought he did a decent job with what he had to work with. At least he left a winner and didn't bail on his team and players.

According the handbook, an employee can buy years of service if they meet certain requirements - military service, maternity leave, previous public service - there is nothing about an employer being able to buy years of service.

There could be a provision in the law that allows it but it isn't listed in the handbook and I have never, ever heard of a state agency/employer purchasing years of service for an employee as a benefit.

Does the word BAIL have a different meaning in that french infested cajun dictionary than in the rest of the country?

Mostly, yes.

As BamaChick said, if he had prior military service (which he does not) he could buy some of that time. If he cashed out his time at Bama, he could also buy that back.

There is a provision were a member can buy time served in an out of state public service plan BUT that purchase can't be made until the member is vested (as in reaches 10 years of service in the Alabama plan), meaning it is at a minimum 6 years before they could buy him time beyond the 4 years he earned at Bama.

You can buy back years of service in another States retirement system. Very expensive but worth it is some cases.

God damn. Why the hell would you move from Louisiana where there's great food, better athletes, and a better program. To a dumpster fire program where you may not have a job after next season because the HC is miss gussy

AU must have opened the checkbook up pretty good.

Yeah, but as JGIR posted the employee can only do that AFTER becoming vested. So it would still take Steele 6 more years to do that.

And everything I've heard and read says the employee has to purchase it. Auburn didn't offer to buy 6 years of service as a bonus for Steele to come to Auburn.

This discussion has made me wonder something - do Chizik or Shula or any other coach who gets fired but still gets paid a buyout get credit for years of service for those buyout years?

Good deal. Thanks. The buying service time once vested makes sense. And as powerful as people like to think boosters at certain schools may be, they can't get around those regulations.

I am just going to pretend everyone is misspelling the name Ogeron.

I could have waited on this news until tomorrow. I would have at least had a few hours to feel good about beating Memphis.

The next few months will be exciting. L5U folks trashing their ex that they have vigorously defended. Aubs defending their new associate that they have previously trashed.

For the record I've never trashed him. But that's not to say I'm convinced this is a good hire. As I've said in one of the other 73 threads on this subject, we will have to wait until probably around this time next year to know if this was a good or bad hire.
