Fun fact, #1 Indiana is also in the playoffs. Memorial stadium seating capacity is 52k+

I went to the Mizzou game in Norman last month and was surprised how small it felt

Going to LSU Tenn; Bama and A&M it looks and feels tiny

Also, your own website says it’s 80k

quote:

Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium One of America's most recognized college football cathedrals, Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, situated on the east side of the Norman campus, is the largest sports venue in the state of Oklahoma and ranks among the 20 largest on-college football stadiums in the nation. Each home football Saturday, Sooner Nation packs the 80,126-seat "Palace on the Prairie," resulting in one of the country’s top home-field advantages.

The Athens Fire Marshall is strict as hell, I would say there is usually 100k squeezes in but official attendance will always be the 93k number.

And do you know that for some fans it's just another version of 'mine is bigger than yours?'

Don’t lump me in which the dipshits who have to shout to rooftops about their stadium size lol. They are probably the same ones who leave the game if their team falls behind by ten points

OU hit official high of 85k. Largest crowds were against TCU and Ohio State at over 88,000. Due to remodeling, required to put in handrails-cut out 2 seats from each row, Put in club seats, to replace bleachers, in south end with lots of leg room and free food. All that cut it to 82k. West side remodel will remove bleachers in favor of club seats. The club seats require a capital donation of at least $5k plus an annual donation of $2k for the south. Won't be surprised if the west side will be lot higher. The donations are in addition to ticket prices. Every OU season ticket holder must pay a donation.

The OU stadium has chairs in upper east side deck, most of south end zone and will have chairs on majority of west side including west upper deck.
I read somewhere that OU and Texas have highest ticket prices/donation requirements in the SEC. With the west side remodel, OU may run at top of the league. The AD believes that OU will bring in more revenue with a smaller stadium. Many, including me believe it is a mistake.

You SEC hillbillies are standing in bleachers all over, aren't you. Like me in the north OU end zone.

OK announced a few months ago they are reducing stadium size. I assume to add more luxury boxes

True. Luxury boxes and Club seats will dominate the entire west side plus most of south end zone.

Pro tip regarding OU’s stadium. Rather than type all that ridiculously long name into your GPS or Google maps, just put in “Owen Field.”

I’ll be curious to see how downsizing works for the Sooners, but they are in a major metropolitan area, so it probably makes sense for them to try to tap more corporate revenue with more luxury seating; this is just a really painful way to do it.

Typing Gaylord Stadium into Google isn't that time consuming.

These capacity numbers are trash because not every team plays a home game.

Never been to Oklahoma. Never had a reason. Perhaps that will change in 2027. Have always been curious and more so after learning about the Oklahoma Onion Burger.

The 7000 seeat reduction at Owen Field is temporary. When they start phase 2 on the North end they will add that back plus some.

Also there are some bad seats in a couple of those 100k stadiums in the SEC.

But they make up for it by selling suites.

The only one I've been in with bad seats is Neyland, where it is possible to buy a ticket to see the game and then find out you can't actually see the game.

A smaller stadium, OR ARENA, can be a much more intimidating factor for the visiting team.

That is why Duke at Cameron Indoor Arena is one of the hardest places to play for a visiting team. The fans are basically on the court as it just over 9000 people.

It was even worse until about 20 years ago when they finally put AC in the arena. Duke trained in it but opposing teams would struggle with so many people packed in and no AC
