What are you guys opinion of Stacey Searels as an OL coach?
Good coach? Great coach? Good teacher? Good developer of talent?
Or
Wouldn't want him as your OL coach?

None of the above. Very average.

He WAY UNDERWHELMED at UGA. I would not want him back.

psh he and bobo were getting probably the most heat. people can say "oh, but he had injuries at UGA" but thats part of the job. our OL never shined. they were always underwhelming, lackadaisical, confused, and just really a bunch of fluff balls getting their asses handed to them on a daily basis

This reminds me of what Muschamp said every time he was asked about our injuries. "No one's feeling sorry for the Gators right now, I can guarantee you that, and neither are we."

He's a good OL coach that caught a lot of heat due to his HC making stupid decisions. He's a very aggressive recruiter who has no problem negative recruiting anyone to get the players he wants.

It never fails, every time the injuries are brought up in a PC that's what he says. It never gets old.

Don't have the data handy but in terms of average recruit star rating, our OL over the last 5 years has had the lost rating of any position on our team. In other words we have been playing with mostly 3 star and a few 4 star OL. In other words Searels did not do a very good job of attracting talent to our OL while he was at UGA.

but most staffs are set up to recruit areas not positions.... now once they visit campus, it's up to Searels (or whomever) to attract the players with their coaching abilities, NFL graduates, demeanor, etc.
IMO, Searels fell victim to an offensive philosophy that emphasizes QB play and that lacks aggressiveness in the running game. FWIW, that's not gonna get better at Texas either, more than likely.
Searels was an idiot for not taking the AU job back in 09.... I said it then, and i'll say it now.... but he had the opportunity to join a staff committed to running the football... what former OL who played for Pat Dye wouldn't want that?

texas is gonna be a run first philosophy, thats what mack wanted the whole time but he never hired the coaches who could make it work without a superhuman qb

well, you're gonna get your wish this season then.... QB play in austin is terrible right now. Didn't UT hire Boise's OC?

He is a very aggressive recruiter and has no issues negative recruiting, he's one of the worst when it comes to using negative recruiting.
His coaching ability is very good the problem is in the S&C coach and the HC who keep trying to ram a square peg into a round hole. I'm not saying Stacy is innocent in this but he is not the full problem.
When the offense was great a few years ago Bobo was all the rage and MR was getting the credit. Now that things are tanking fans are blaming them when they were responsible for most of the good performance to start with.
Sometimes it is best for a coach to move on because he can be good but in a situation that doesn't work for him. I think UGA came out well as they needed a new OL coach with some fresh ideas as well.

Our offense has never really been the great. 2007 it took off but less credit went to richt or bobo and more to the fact we had stafford, Moreno, and stud receivers. 2008 they squandered that talent and our offense, which should have been unstoppable, actually failed us. Why's that? Our OL was abysmal.
Searels may recruit regions but he still has a huge say in what lineman they get and you know that. And UGA is not a pass happy offense like y'all keep saying. Wed love to run first, but our OL is inept so we don't. To say we are pass oriented is incorrect. Our entire passing game is based off of play action which is really bad when there is no run game, see 2010

It starts with an aggressive mindset from the head coach... UGA doesn't have that. You've got to commit to running the ball... I'm not saying Searels doesn't need blame, but he's the scapegoat for a soft offensive philosophy .... but that's just my opinion.
