Back then running up the score helped your chances of playing for a national championship, ask Osborne at Nebraska..

Ok I’ll ask how does osbourne running up the score against spurrier in the national championship help them get to the national championship

Spurrier never ran the score up? He’s well known for the philosophy that it is his job to score. The opponents job to stop me. He ran it up all the time.

You are forgetting that Spurrier coached at South Carolina.

Because Spurrier liked to run up the score when he got the chance I was disappointed when Stockton took a knee at the one yard line last year to run out the clock.

I understand why Kirby did it but you can't beat Florida enough to repay all of that angst and misery Spurrier caused Georgia fans.

Here's hoping Sumrall falls flat on his face this season coming up.

The ncaa unintentionally ended up being in a much greater spot than before.

They rake in billions of dollars and now they don’t actually have to do anything.

Yet Spurrier understands that embracing the new wrinkles of college football is the only way to win.

Is that why he quit on his players at uscE in 2015 or was it the 2-4 start??

Spurrier ran it up on teams/people he hated. I have no issue, but a) don’t get mad if others do it to you, b) do it it with your reserves, because you’re a fool if you have your starters in a 50-point blowout. If I were blowing out Spurrier, I might punt on first-and-goal.

Every coach every game should try and score as many points as possible. They get paid to coach their team for 60 minutes.

And in the old days you did it to win the beauty pageant. Today you do it to get an invite.

And what most of you forget running up the score is a win win for both teams because it forces AD’s and coaches to actually work for a living. If every game were 27-23 then you’d have a lot of comfortable mediocre coaches still coaching. The best thing that happened to my team was having Notre Dame and UGA humiliate us on national TV in back to back weeks. While it sucked to watch it also forced change and led us to a 9 win season and respectability on the field and in recruiting.

Donnan lost to GT 3 years in a row which led them to Richt which led them to Kirby so while some losses are painful they also help.
