Steve Spurrier never played a great Bama or LSU team. 2001 was decent but not great.

Spurrier's most redeeming quality is he will say what he thinks and doesn't give a crap if it will upset people.

Talent alone does not a great team make. You're telling me a team that went 10-3 and ended up...what....4th in the west was a GREAT team? No. You're excluding all other intangibles and everything else.

Anybody ever notice that Steve Spurrier's worst losses come in championship games by 30+ points?

Spurrier's still pissed that he said ND didn't belong in the Sugar Bowl against his Gators in 1992, and then ND and Holtz promptly steamrolled him.
He also doesnt know his history. ND tried to join the mainstream and a conference a long time ago. ND was boycotted out of Catholic bigotry so ND went national as the underdog and established a permanent, national following. They created brand value like no other school. So ND should just give up their brand and independence because Spurrier's a jealous communist? Capitalism baby.

You never took the context of what Spurrier said into consideration. This had nothing to do with Notre Dame making money. This has to do with Notre Dame having it's own vote on the leadership panel that is for Conferences (whereas the SEC, ACC Big1G, etc each have a vote that represents the interests of the many teams they represent.)
Notre Dame's person has 1 vote, but only reps 1 school. If you're going to argure that they raise more money...I can tell you that they did NOT earn more revenue than Texas, Bama, or even Michigan this past year. Those teams don't get their own vote at that conference table ('cept Bama/SEC, but that's for a different thread.)
Therefore, this is the complete opposite of Capitalism, this is Socialism, Notre Dame feels like they deserve a spot at the table b/c they're special, and people should give them sympathy b/c Te'o's girlfriend just died.

When he hangs up the coaching clipboard you'll not see him on ESPN doing weekly pundit duty.
Spurrier has some sixty million in the bank. He's made good investments. He's still got his kids and grandkids to keep him busy, and his golf game ... that's once he decides to quit coaching. He may do a guest spot on one of the shows every now and then, but when he retires he'll melt slowly into the shadows and let Bubba have the spotlight for awhile.

You'll see. The guy is as dumb as a sack of pebbles. He'll slip up and the truth will come out eventually.
Hopefully it won't be after statute of limitations on murdering make believe people is up.

Here's his quote: "All 14 of our head coaches thought that Notre Dame should join the ACC to play football like all the rest of us," he said. "Notre Damers can get mad at me and us coaches for saying that … but from the rest of us that are in conferences we say, 'Why aren't they in a conference?' It's hard to figure out why.
They should join a conference just because everyone else has to be in one? Sounds like socialism to me. And the coaches wasted their time taking a vote on this? Dear Lord. ND fans must be rolling in laughter that the SEC would waste its time on a meaningless vote on ND and the ACC. I mean, WTF?
Some schools may generate more revenue than ND, but that doesn't mean they have a greater or better brand. And they don't. The Masters has established the best brand in golf. It may not produce the most revenue, but that is not their goal - for a very long time, they didn't televise the front 9 holes. They sell a limited number of tickets even though demand is through the roof and they could sell so much more. They still charge very little for on course concessions, even though they could get away with highway robbery. They do these things, among many things, to protect and enhance their brand and it's pretty darn smart.
ND is not going to join a conference because that would be inconsistent with how they've established their brand. Seems obvious to me.
If the commissioners want to take away their vote, I'm sure they can. But they haven't. Who's fault is that?
