Those penalties were worked out hand in hand with the NCAA.

The NCAA has stated the HC is responsible for his program, but it also recognizes that AU and BP acted swiftly and some believe severely once they became aware of the issue. Many at AU believe that they should have slow fed the NCAA and provided a few sacrificial lambs. Instead the Compliance Dept felt the way they handled it showed punishment for BP. Most at AU believe it is over. LSU handled it totally different and is another reason why those at AU are confident it is over for them.
Basically I said the same thing in an earlier post. Y'all hammered yourselves, cut scholarships, sat players, fired 3 coaches, self-imposed 2 yr post season ban and served heavy recruiting cuts for over a year.

The only thing left for the NCAA to do is level the probation period and they will either give Pearl a sanction to miss a few games or slap him on the wrist considering everything BP's already sacrificed.

I personally think Auburn went overboard with the self-imposed stuff, but it I'm sure Rich McGlynn followed the letter of the law and did exactly what the NCAA recommended.

Bruce Pearl is stupid enough to get caught twice in the same conference. He’s basically the Ed Orgeron of basketball ripping his shirt off and yelling stuff we can’t understand.

What will happen is they will hit Grambling with a post season ban.

From the book of Tarkanian, chapter 1, verse 1.

Auburn self-imposed a ton with the help of the NCAA advisors. They sat the 2 players that were paid for over a full season, self-imposed recruiting restrictions for over a year, imposed 2 yrs post season ban, and fired the Asst HC (Persons) & two more staffers.

The NCAA still has to level a probation period and they'll have to address the NCAA rule about the HC solely responsible for the actions of the staffers that report directly to the HC.

Assuming there aren't any additional findings, if Aubie gets anything more than a piece of paper making things formal the melt will be justified.

As far as Pearl goes, we had an assistant AD doing the same thing (actually working for the same guy as Person). In both cases, what they were doing would HURT the program long term. This is one case (again, barring no additional findings) where holding the head guy accountable doesn't make sense.

Bruce Pearl was stupid enough to lie to the NCAA and unlucky enough to get caught with Chuck Persons as his Asst HC. That Persons shite was between Auburn "Family" members.

I agree they went overboard, but that was because the Compliance Dept was working with the NCAA. AU's Compliance Dept has more power within the AD than any other NCAA School. The fact that they are all former employees of the NCAA has tied the hands of many HCs that work at AU. In the end it will pay off, but they did not factor in that the NCAA has lost power in the last 10 years. AU could have had a very good BB team last year, but Compliance killed the season on many fronts.

I still don’t understand why Auburn didn’t stick to the Cam Newton defense. I guess since they nabbed Person red handed, clamming up and not talking wouldn’t have necessarily worked. But I also didn’t expect them to hand over everything they had and kneel to the NCAA so quickly, either.

The same people who handled the Cam case handled the Person case. In Cam's case there was nothing there on Auburn and the Compliance people uncovered every stone. Again, working hand and hand with the NCAA. That is why AU was complimented by the NCAA.
They did the same thing with Person and in the process uncovered most of the facts. AU felt confident in the investigation and since it did not involve recruits felt it separated itself from other violations. A person within the Dept who didn't want Bruce hired was the one that pushed the extreme sanctions.

The NCAA dragging their feet and not making a timely decision has become their new defacto "punishment" IMO.

LSU, which has been embroiled in one of the highest-profile (and most contentious) cases, is nearing delivery of a notice of allegations (NOA) from the IARP’s Complex Case Unit, sources say.

It’s true. This has been a complete shite show - made possible by a committee that was supposed to streamline the process.

The self-imposed penalties Auburn gave themselves should be enough. Two players were suspended for a ton of time and seeking yourself ineligible for the NCAAT and SECT is also massive.

frick the NCAA if they do ANYTHING to Auburn.
