At the Heart of It: Cardiac Inflammation the Next Virus Hurdle for College Leaders

quote:

In a small percentage of infected patients, COVID-19 leaves behind troubling scars in the throbbing muscle within their chests, known as myocarditis. Earlier during the pandemic, doctors only associated the condition with severe and, oftentimes, hospitalized COVID victims, usually elderly patients or those with underlying health problems.

quote:

Lately, physicians are identifying the condition in young, healthy Americans — including athletes. “The last month or two, even asymptomatic young people are developing myocardial injury,” Martinez says.

Of all the hurdles impeding a 2020 college football season, there is one roadblock that has gone mostly overshadowed, buried beneath the other more prominent obstacles, such as testing, travel, a bubble-less college campus and quarantine requirements. That hurdle? The heart.

“That’s what has been the final straw,” says a team doctor at a prominent college football program.
“The commissioners are finally figuring it all out. The commissioners are going, ‘Oh my gosh!’ And the doctors are like, ‘Yeah...’”

I can’t stand Ross Dellenger. Are these athletes going to go home if football is cancelled? Or are they going to continue to go to school, go to more parties, not be exposed to constant surveillance measures etc.

No tears from me, we should move on anyway since most players, coaches and schools are onboard with the far left agenda

I'll take it being the end of entitled athletes and over paid coaches.

Eliminate recruiting. Now students actually play.

Covid-19 is the globalist elitist cabal's wet dream. I hate sounding so conspiratorial and my comment probably belongs on the poli board but I think it's relative to this board because there's no area they don't want to control.

Scientists can't even acknowledge that a long approved and safe drug (HCQ) that AT WORST helps only some with preventing the virus from becoming more deadly and in extremely rare cases can cause dangerous heart issues in some is a viable drug. Yet scientists are now convinced young people with even very minor Covid symptoms develop life altering heart conditions. This pandemic is being used to justify insane abuses of people's civil liberties. I'm beginning to become convinced that stuff like this is being used to make us as miserable as possible in an election year. Sadly, many university leaders agree with these tactics and would gladly sabotage football and basketball in order to support more "noble" long term political goals.

Having said that, if overwhelming evidence eventually comes about showing that young healthy people wind up with serious heart injury from this virus then that it obviously a serious issue the NCAA will have to deal with going forward.

True but if this is the case then what business does any university have opening up in person?

Complete with burying this line in the middle of the article

quote:

He acknowledges that the cases in athletes with COVID-related heart impacts are very small. Among professional, college and youth league athletes, he’s seen no more than a dozen in the US.

Rich, coming from the side that politicizes EVERYTHING.

From history to education to athletics to the freakin weather.

Is there anything that you DON'T politicize?

That line wasn't the lede but it was included.

If all the power 5 schools play this season a few infected players will suffer heart damage or worse. Even if there is no season some players will become infected and suffer damage.

There is some unavoidable harm in playing and there are some other unavoidable harms in not playing.

A season vs no season--The differential risk to both players and society is almost impossible to determine.

I hope to see college football this fall. Most players want to play. Most coaches want to coach.

Politicize the weather? Wasn't it Trump who used his sharpee to falsify a weather chart?

just about all of sports has been co-opted with political propaganda, but yeah it’s the Trump followers at fault here

Good lord the tribalism in this nation. If we survive another 100 years it’ll be a God damned miracle.

If the season is cancelled, I REALLY hope that 75% sports media is laid off and can’t find jobs.

I’m guessing this would end the grumbling of the student athlete and how they need to be payed and shite.

You keep beating on and chopping away at the roots of the tree that feeds it, the only result will be the tree dies.

This is also 100% true with the flu

And pretty much every virus

quote:

Acute myocarditis is a well-known complication of influenza infection. The clinical expression varies from asymptomatic to fulminant myocarditis, which can result in severe hemodynamic dysfunction, necessitating high-dose catecholamines and mechanical circulatory support

quote:

Potential causes include: Viruses. Many viruses are commonly associated with myocarditis, including the viruses that cause the common cold (adenovirus); COVID-19; hepatitis B and C; parvovirus, which causes a mild rash, usually in children (fifth disease); and herpes simplex virus.

The common fricking cold causes myocarditis in some patients. It’s amazing how bullshite media members have become

claims about the weather since the 70's and global "cooling" Here ya go LINK

quote:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The latter said, “The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.”

quote:

Thunberg in her new book, “Around 2030 we will be in a position to set off an irreversible chain reaction beyond human control that will lead to the end of our civilization as we know it.”

Al Gore predicts no more polar
caps in 5 years (in 2009 BTW)

You never fail to disappoint Whiznut.
