Geography. You're close enough to the coast that you're always going to have 70% relative humidity. But you're far enough away that you don't get the coastal breeze.
The mountains to the west also impact the wind that can come from the west. As a result, Cola is still. And it has sandy soil that also absorbs moisture, plus you're nestled between three rivers. Trees are abundant, but palmettos dont get super tall, and provide little shade. It just stays hot and humid from April until early November.
I loved living in Columbia. Fantastic town. Sleepy in the summer, and it has great energy when students report in the fall. Loads to do, and no more than 2 hours away from anything you wanna see. Mountains? Two hours west. Beaches? Two hours east. City life? Two hours north. Middle of nowhere, rural paradise? 45 minutes in any direction.
Much of this is correct, especially the part about the sand, but the main issue is combining all you said with the fact that its downwind of predominately westerly winds ascending down to a very low elevation a pretty good distance from the coast. The city is anywhere from 150-250 feet above sea level. Atlanta, while on almost the same latitude, is 1050 feet above sea level with no obstruction of cooler air from the north and west.

It will be impressive to those of us who follow the SEC closely and know how hard it is to get up every single week, and play in front of 100k fans week in and out.
But for those who don't follow it closely, 11-1 will look better.
The SEC is screwed and with the new 9 game conference schedule we screwed ourselves even more.
I think we'll see an announcement that the playoff is going to 16 teams this offseason.
4 SEC guaranteed
4 B1G guaranteed
2 B12 guaranteed
2 ACC guaranteed
1 G5 guaranteed
3 At Large - Max 1 per conference (SEC, B1G, ND most years imo)
This should solve the problem of OOC games and scheduling differences between conferences..
eta: If we do something like this, I hope we consider adding more games to Championship Saturday.
1 vs 2 for the Title
both are in the playoff so maybe drop this game altogether
3 vs 6 for the #3 spot
loser still has a shot for the At Large Bid
4 vs 5 for the #4 spot
loser still has a shot for the At Large Bid
Full day of ABC games right there.
Example of Playoff Bracket

LSU? Hell, a 6A Texas HS team could beat them.

They only have to score 20 to beat LSU

Checking in from Goose Creek (Charleston metro). Charleston can get absolutely hellish until the sea breeze kicks in. The problem with Columbia is that there’s no sea breeze. Ever. I will say that Columbia back in my younger days was my second favorite college town. Athens was my favorite! If you couldn’t get laid in Athens as a hetero male, you weren’t trying

Absolutely brutal
Well, thankfully they can relax just a little because we ain't #5 according to people on this board along with Joel Klatt. He doesn't even have us in his Top 10. We are a phantom team, a mirage. Had we notta hired our own referees to beat Auburn for us, woo wee. No tellin where we'd be ranked by Klatt.

And the other half, a well-above average win? And all benefit from a stronger SOS and SOR?
The best teams have more opportunities to separate themselves from the nationwide pack by playing high-quality games against teams their fan base also hates.
It’s a win-win

This..i lived in Columbia for 16 years and thought "this place is the hottest place" then i went to Houston.
Way hotter.. I told my friend that I felt like I was on the third ring from the sun.
Houston absolutely sucks when it comes to heat.

The SEC would be foolish to agree to this. As of right now there are 8 SEC teams ranked in the top 16; your formula would automatically exclude 3 SEC teams and give their slots to lesser teams. This is a recipe for someday giving a slot to an unranked Cincinnati Bearcats team with a power rating of 30, but excluding a 12th ranked LSU or Georgia with a top ten power rating.
