This should have been done a long time ago.

There is a move afoot for people to cancel their subscriptions and donate the money to Hilinski's Hope instead.

I hope coach Boom goes Nuclear on the press corp tomorrow in his presser...
This isn't the first time the school has had problems with this paper. Spurrier booted one of their reports during his tenure.
Here's the video of that exchange.

That's a great idea and a much more worthy way to spend $.

I just think it's a strange headline to pull out of nowhere. Hope floats/sinks I guess is a reasonably understood phrase, but it's just not something I'd naturally think of.
I'm wondering if "Hilinski Hope" is a phrase the writers had heard enough without really realizing the organization it pertained to. I just find it an odd blunder to stumble into but I also can't imagine there was any real intent to make that connection.

The State newspaper is garbage and was before this incident. There isn't a newspaper in any SEC town (or any college football town for that matter) that is more adversarial to its local team than the State is to South Carolina.

That's because the paper isn't based in Columbia anymore. It's in Charlotte.

It just makes quite a statement, no matter where it's based out of, when the "major" paper most proximal to Clemson offers the fairest and most unbiased articles about the Gamecocks.

I can’t imagine the newspaper/writer did that intentionally.
Saturday's "unintentional" screw up - was just another in decades of pot-shots at USC and anyone affiliated with the school.
once is a coincidence, 50 years is a pattern.

I doubt it, but damn, that is bad.

I doubt it. A lot of this work is farmed out to non-local journalists who simply aren't aware of certain things like the Hilinski Hope Foundation. It isn't an excuse. It is more of a statement on the sad state of "local" newspapers.

Greenville News is not by any means awarding winning but it’s not a bad paper. It’s pretty fair.

This newspaper has been historically a shite rag and they've been doing it for decades. Literally decades.
It started back during the Marvin Bass years and got worse under Paul Dietzel and (Herman Helms was the most offending hack in those days) and it has carried over with Jim Carlin and Joe Morrison and and so on.
Ron Morris was heinous attacking Lou Holtz and that continued on with SPURrier until Spurrier went on the attack and eventually contributed to Ron Morris' firing.
The State newspaper has always been our enemy. When it finally goes under most Gamecock fans will rejoice.
Poor Lou Holtz had to endure so much shite from that paper it was almost criminal. It hurt us badly recruiting ..... the stunts they used to pull on Lou.
This latest thing is just a new low even for The State.

Editors are just as shitty as the low level journalists these days.
If they even bother with editors.

I'd say the Post and Courier does a good job, but I'd be biased in that assessment. I can't say I've ever read the Greenville one.

I think you can get Post & Courier in Columbia now. They're a decent paper with some good reporting.
The State is just absolute shite.

I was sitting right in front of SOS during that declaration. What transpired afterwards was pretty amazing.
Morris had gotten away with so much shite against Lou Holtz and Morris would laugh and take a lot of pleasure in causing disruption. But on that day he realized he had finally gone too far.
And here's the crazy thing about it.
On the night after Spurrier was announced as our new coach, or maybe it was a couple of days later when we all got back from the holidays, we were covering the basketball game that night and Spurrier shows up. So we're all down under the CLA in one of the main causeways and Fink tells us Spurrier is coming and is willing to take a few questions.
So we all gather around him and are talking with him and introducing ourselves.... and Spurrier goes out of his way to reach over and shake Ron Morris' hand and tell him it was good to see him and he looked forward to talking with him soon. Because they had known each other from SPURrier's days up at Duke when Ron was working for the Raleigh paper.
As soon as Spurrier walks away and we're all headed back to press row, Ron says something negative about Spurrier and how he knows so much about the guy and where the skeletons are buried.... or something along those lines I can't remember exactly.
But I thought to myself, what a shithook. I had seen Ron Morris brag on his efforts to try to keep Lou Holtz out of the college football hall of fame (Ron had also covered him at NC State and he hated Lou) .... and I considered Ron even worse than Herman Helms.
But I was sitting there that day when Spurrier walked in and uttered those words and it was something to behold when that room broke up. Ron Morris was red faced and he knew he had finally been put in his place.
I think he was demoted the next day and fired a few weeks later and he cried and complained about how badly he was being treated and how this would destroy his career and he and his poor wife would go broke. I think one of the TV stations did an in home interview with his wife and him and it was pathetic.
It's really time for The State newspaper to go under. They are a shite rag of the worst magnitude every since The Columbia Record went out of business or was bought by them or whatever .... but some of the shite they did to Lou Holtz is unforgivable.
