Toss out Wake, Notre Dame, Duke, GA Tech and Add Va Tech and UVA and that’s a sexy conference

I don’t see why the SEC needs a counter move, actually.

I’m sure some will disagree.

I don’t. While we’re at it, why don’t we get rid of football dead weight Arkansas, South Carolina and Missouri? Hate to kick out charter members but it’s time for Vanderbilt to go. We only need 12 members.

Frankly, I hate all expansion and liked the SEC a lot better at 10 teams.

Sure they will. But they aren't adding anything. Adding the NC/VA schools would effectively lock the B??G out of any move to add teams south of Mason/Dixon. Because they covet AAU status. UNC,VA,GT,Pitt and Miami are AAU. Not sure on NCSU or Duke. Adding VA/NC gives the SEC a new footprint to work with.

I agree with you on locking the B1G out, and UNC, UVA, and VT fit in with the SEC fairly well. But why would the SEC double down on those states by adding redundant mediocre programs by double dipping in both NC and VA instead of taking the premier NC program (UNC), one of the two VA schools, and then take the two strongest football programs in recent memory from the ACC (Clemson and FSU)?

The B1G’s expansion plan (with Nebraska aside) has been all about media markets over quality of competition, best exemplified by adding Rutgers and UCLA. And that ship has sailed, the B1G clearly has more theoretical big markets than the SEC. But they clearly don’t care about geography or a common identity, it’s all almost singularly about gobbling up large markets.

The SEC by contrast has been, in my opinion, far more thoughtful about the long-term ramifications of expansion. It’s added teams that (mostly) fit into its existing footprint and that do not water down the quality of competition. If the SEC expands again, it needs to maintain that mantra. It’s building a super conference that might actually last, and unfortunately for you my UF friend, FSU and Clemson fit the bill quite nicely.

Good points. Ill admit I'm biased as I want FSU to forever remain in the doldrums. Since the new game is all about brands instead of outright footprint. FSU and Clemson would generate more money. I'd like to be in the room when those Powerpoints are shown.

Trust me, I understand that. If Kansas was a desired expansion target, I’d be on here just melting down.
