I posted this link in a thread over on the tiger rant but a lot of you never go over there. Thought I would post it over here to get some multi-fan discussion. I think McCarthy is leaving with Porter, but why would you keep a guy on your staff that did this?

damn.
LSU junior defensive lineman Akiem Hicks allegedly received money from wide receivers coach D.J. McCarthy to transfer to LSU from Sacramento City Community College in California, The Daily Reveille learned on Thursday.
This transaction led to an NCAA violation that a source familiar with the situation said became known to the team following the Arkansas game last Saturday.
“It was one of those things they try to avoid bringing up, but everybody knows who’s involved,” said the source, who is a former member of the LSU football team. “That right there is a big deal. Minor violations don’t even break the news.”
LSU would not stand to forfeit any wins as a result of the violations because Hicks did not play in any games for the Tigers this season, but Hicks’ eligibility remains would remain unclear as a result of the investigation.
“Taking money turns you into a professional, and that affects your amateurism,” the source said. “If you’re not an amateur, you can’t play in the NCAA.”
McCarthy is apparently planning to leave LSU with running backs coach Larry Porter to be on the coaching staff at Porter’s alma mater, Memphis, the source said.
Tennessee wide receivers coach Frank Wilson has been offered a job on the LSU coaching staff, according to GoVolsXtra.com, the Tennessee sports Web site of the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

I don't understand this. But Miles always seems to find other coaches he plans on getting rid of jobs instead of firing them.

This could be bad. I wonder if he has played in any games?

do we know how much money was exchanged?

You didn't read it did you... He didn't play.

Then it shouldn't be too big a deal. If he didn't play they had no advantage. Kick his arse off the team and roll on. Not LSU's fault!!
That is how I see it but I am fairly liberal with violations after being a BAMA fan for so long. I am pro University and anti NCAA.

He hasn't...which means we don't have to forfeit any games. Thank the Lord.

Neither did Albert Means and he was just allededly paid by a booster.
2 year bowl ban, 24 lost scholaraships over the next 3 years, and they can't get rid of Les Miles for the next 4 years.
That's what Bama would get.

Does the fact that he didn't play in any games mean it is just a problem for him and this coach but not the overall program?

they suspended Hicks before the season started. i don't expect a whole lot to come from this.

except the part it was a coach that paid.
But yeah, if he didn't play, no advantage, just kick him and be done with it.

This may have just surfaced publically following the Arkansas game, but didn't Miles find out about this a while back and been cooperative ever since? Another factor is that LSU is self reporting it and didn't allow him to play. But there should be some type of repercussions--if not for the university, at least for the coach involved.

But if they caught it, self reported, and didn't play him, I don't see this is a problem. In my opinion LSU did the right thing and did a self investigation and reolved the issue. How do you punish someone for doing the right thing.
I hate the fricking NCAA!!

We might lose some scholarships from this, but I hope not.
