Coach paying him = NCAA doing whatever the hell they feel like doing.

That
It's not like he's an out of control Alum dropping $$$ on a player.

Doubt it. We're not a repeat offender, Hicks didn't play at all and it was self-reported. Probably gonna get the "you're being watched" by the NCAA.

Everyone talks about Alabama being a cheating program. Everyone points to the Albert Means case, who never played a down at Bama.

It seems like hypocrisy to me. If a coach for a University paid for a player, then that is a major violation.

I'm not saying LSU is guilty because I haven't researched anything on the story but for people to say it's not big deal is silly.

If a coach on your staff is paying a Juco to transfer to your school, then it's no different than the Albert Means issue. Actually it's worse in my opinion. In one situation a booster pays who isn't on your payroll. The coach is a direct employee of the University and did it (like Tim Floyd). That's a serious problem.

Once again for all I know the story may be totally bogus but it doesn't sound like a very good situation. If nothing else it's a situation where those who have been throwing stones about cheating, should monitor their glass house right about now.

Exactly.

If an employee of the university is paying a player, that's a problem whether he ever sees the field or not.

Now, the NCAA might do nothing. But I wouldn't just write this off as no big deal if I were an LSU fan.

McCarthy, Enjoy Memphis you cheating prick.

This whole deal blows my mind. After getting to meet D.J. and his family and spending the day with them for the Tulane game, I'm in shock that he did this. He is a great guy and a great family man. He's human and he made a mistake. He got caught up in something terrible, but he'll rebound and he'll be a man and admit to his wrongdoings. I wish him nothing but success and happiness.

This could be bad. I wonder if he has played in any games?

LSU would not stand to forfeit any wins as a result of the violations because Hicks did not play in any games for the Tigers this season, but Hicks’ eligibility remains would remain unclear as a result of the investigation.

It will turn out to be nothing...

But if they caught it, self reported, and didn't play him, I don't see this is a problem. In my opinion LSU did the right thing and did a self investigation and reolved the issue. How do you punish someone for doing the right thing.

Do the words "textbook case" mean anything to you?

How about "Tyrone Beaman"?

You can't really expect Les to know this is going to happen.

Slightly different scenario.

That was on a mass scale involving players who participated in games.

Albert Means never played in a game either, and it was a booster in his case, not a coach.
