Oof…Guessing there isn’t much of a commitment in Norman to upgrade basketball facilities? Losing Moser to a program like DePaul isn’t a very good look entering the SEC.

A number of years ago Oliver Purnell left Clemson after 7 years for DePaul. It was kind of a weird move, he had them in the right direction - making the tournament 3 years in a row before he left. He then spent 5 years at DePaul where he went 54-105 (15-75) and I don’t think he’s head coached since.

Not sure how DePaul gets these guys.

Arkansas fans are always desperate to distract from the dumpster fire they have going in Fayetteville. The two sports that make money are both in shambles over there.

Arkansas misses the NCAA Tourney after two Elite Eights and three consecutive Sweet Sixteens…Missouri just finished up an 0-18 league basketball campaign.

And you’re telling me Arkansas basketball has problems?

I don't think it is the "commitment to facilities" just yet. Although it could be if he stays.

Moser is a Chicago guy and DePaul is the #1 job at the largest Catholic school in the city. Meanwhile at OU he is feeling pressure. For him to return home to a good job (potentially) and stay one step ahead of the jailer is what we have here.

It is almost the exact same scenario as Shaka Smart at Texas. Get a job at home before Texas fires you.

As for facilities, OU does need to upgrade. However, they are on hold right now as City of Norman is looking to build a state of art arena along with private companies. The court would be used by OU. So for now, they are waiting to see if this passes before they make any decisions. Once that passes then great and if not then they will start talks in earnest to upgrade.

I did some reading on the Moser thing. One rumor is Porter overplayed his DePaul hand (to OU) and it didn’t turn out like he thought. He was supposedly asking for a new court and other things and as I mentioned, OU has to wait out the City decision first. But it also seems they are ok if he leaves from the tea leaves I read.

He took over a team on the downslide and is rebuilding it. He’s made progress but not as fast as some want. He was hired same year as WBB coach and she has done wonders when she started with less. So it will be interesting what happens. I have nothing bad to say about him but heading to SEC most thought he’d be further along (this is his 3rd year). And not to discount the B12 is the best BB conf so its hard to rebuild.

Porter Moser: 'I love Oklahoma and Sooner Nation'
Bob Przybylo
Oklahoma men’s basketball head coach Porter Moser simply had enough. It was time to try, at least, to end the coaching rumors once and for all.

“Heard all the rumors this afternoon and want to say emphatically THERE IS ZERO TRUTH!!! I LOVE Oklahoma and Sooner Nation.

“These accounts make stuff up and there is no validity to any of these “sources” b/c I have spoken to NO ONE about any job!!”

quote:

“There’s two things. I don’t enjoy it,” said Moser last month about the rumors. “But I will say this. It’s a little annoying because I have worn my love for being here at Oklahoma on my heart, man. I love this. I know where I want to go with this. If you really want to be real? Well, if you’re 2-25, they’re not mentioning your name. If you have no history of any success, they’re not mentioning your name. “But it is because it’s so much rumor, so much rumor now and stuff to talk about. It has not even been on a conversation with me with anything.” OU just earned its first 20-win regular season since Buddy Hield and the 2016 Final Four team. The Sooners are poised to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Moser’s three seasons running the Sooners.

There was a pretty scathing article in the Tulsa World a couple of days ago. Basically saying OU’s arena wasn’t even worthy of hosting high school games.

I assumed there must be some sort of issue on not building a new arena or updating the one you have.

There is an arena issue for sure. But I think everybody at OU is on the same page on that.

As described earlier in the thread...

They are waiting to see if the city/university/private joint venture comes to fruition before they sink any more money into the Lloyd Noble Center.

However the idea that the LNC couldn't host HS events is ridiculous. It has all the ambiance of a 1970s bomb shelter but it is functional.

Our arena is terrible. I can think of a couple of HS gyms here in OK I would rather go watch a game in.

Arena issues are going to be addressed by the city supposedly early this summer.

Porter may leave but DePaul is the absolute lowest Big East job.

Oklahoma is a football first university but their commitment to basketball is still much more apparent than DePaul

I remember DePaul under Ray Meyer being elite growing up. You would think they would see the money now in NCAA basketball, and pony up to restore that.
