So he's all against over signing recruits at meetings with fans, but when he gets around his peers and coaches, evidently he turns into a twat. I would expect nothing less from him. I love how he contradicts himself.

"We don't over-sign. That's a policy we have at the university," he said. "We've been successful, so it's not an issue for us."
Not everyone agrees with Muschamp's stance on the issue. Head coaches Houston Nutt of Ole Miss - who is at least partly responsible for this being such a big issue - Mark Richt of Georgia, Bobby Petrino of Arkansas and Gene Chizik of Auburn do not have a problem with the practice. Though Nutt and others have said they would be amenable to discussing legislation that would limit the maximum number of scholarship athletes who could be signed each year, Chizik is patently against the concept.
"There were a lot of people who agreed that (28 signees per year) would be an effective idea to address the problems people were worried about," Chizik said, according to The Birmingham News. "We amended the legislation one year ago. In my opinion, it's worked. In my opinion, I'm very comfortable with where it is right now. So for us to turn around a year later and want to change it again, I have my doubts about us having given it enough time to really figure out whether it's broke or not."
Richt added, "Everybody should have a right to manage their own numbers."

It's typical of Richt. Talk a big game in front of your fans and players, but when it comes to crunch time, he turns into butter. Pussy.

That would be what your typical Alabama fan takes from the story.

From yesterday
quote:
Then came Mark Richt, who didn’t appear comfortable being the outspoken voice against over-signing. He started out by saying he would just “listen to what everyone has to say” in the meetings.
“First of all, I think everyone should have a right to manage their numbers,” he said. “I think every university should be able to do that.”
Then he said over-signing would be okay if the players know in advance they would gray-shirt.
“If everyone knows that on the front end, then I don’t see anything wrong with that ethically,” Richt said. “But what I’ve said, if you sign five over, and you get to the moment of truth, and you have to tell two or three kids that thought they were coming in with everyone else, and then all of a sudden you spring the news, all of a sudden there’s no room, you’ve gotta come in in January, I don’t think that’s right.
“But I never said anyone did that, I wasn’t accusing anybody of anything. I was just saying if everyone knows on the front end what’s going on, I don’t see anything wrong with that.”

"If you only have space for 15 by Signing Day and you sign 20, well, if five of those guys know that there is no room at the inn and are willing to gray-shirt and come in next January, then that's fine. But only if they know, their parents know, their high school coach and everybody involved with their recruitment - if everybody knows it on the front end, I don't see anything wrong with it ethically." -CMR
Richt's problem is with signing as many kids as possible and then cutting the dead weight.

Somebody got a little mad and threw a bit of a tantrum.

Football coaches were surprisingly evasive yesterday when it came to summarizing what had been discussed in their meeting with ADs. The first sign of trouble came 30 minutes before the meeting ended with Alabama coach Nick Saban stormed out and blamed reporters for “creating a bad problem.”

I'm sure that was Houston Dale Nutt's plan but it backfired on him because so many washed out he just ended up plugging holes with them. Only 12 of 37 he recruited in 2009 speaks volumes. Tried to have a built in pool of people to compete for positions and ended up staffing the whole team with these people.

Yo, Gator, considering the vote was 12-0, Muschamp didn't exactly stand alone, now did he?
As for a 28 or 25 limit, IMO, it isn't oversigning unless you don't have room for the players. Case in point, I believe UGA ended up signing about 26 this year, but they were still under the 85 limit.

BS on blaming the reporters/media.
Slive is the one buying into the crap they are shoveling, giving them more incentive to continue.
