In reality he's just trying to soothe the pain of knowing his own team has been irrelevant since before Saban was coaching in P&G.

Again, what he said couldn't be further from the truth, and he would know that if he'd paid any attention to the SEC before his tea-sippin arse school bought their way into the conference.

Aggie tried that and you see how many championships THEY won, even with the SwagCopter, the best freshman class money could buy, and all the other Texass-sized hooplah that goes with a team more interested in bragging than showing up and winning.

There are teams I love, regardless: LSU, the Saints, and the Chiefs (and maybe the Pens, but we're not talking Hockey here...)

Then there are teams that I hate and will root against regardless of circumstance: Bama, Aggie, Gators (usually), the Raiders, the Cowgirls, the Donkeys and the friggen Niners (and the the Red Wings, but we're not talking Hockey here...)

Then there's all the rest that I can watch and just enjoy the game (usually).

But I can say that I've never been an "SEC guy", or an "AFC West/NFC South" guy that would root for one of those teams I hate just to have some semblance of pride I didn't feel with my own team. Nope, I'll just go all Slim Pickens and ride the bomb down myself and root like hell against them, even if they represent my team's conference.

Texas is quickly getting close to being on my Hell Nah! list, though.

If it's glaring, wouldn't it make it less obvious?

Now you see. Texas hasn't been relevant to people outside of Austin since ever. Texas should have stayed in the Big 12. Sorry not sorry you had to find out this way.
