So is DJ Jurkin suddenly a great defensive coordinator?

There were threads on this board not even a week ago where some were saying he was the worst D coordinator in the SEC. Amazing how he suddenly figured it all out***

Just more proof that elite talent will make damn near any coach look good...another Example is O in 2019.

Hell no. Auburn and Arkansas have two of the worst OLs I've seen in a while.

Probably not. Plus Dave aranda was the DC for LSU in 2019. You’re insane if you think Ed orgeron schemed some of those performances

If you watch the games…. He has actually adjusted his tactics since the Miami game.

More proof that all coaches read tRant for game plan tips.

Our secondary is still caca until proven otherwise. Auburn and Arkansas weren't really threats to throw the ball, so our defense really shined. Van Dyke picked apart the secondary all game.

Hopefully that unit has improved since Miami, but we won't really know until we face another passing offense that is worth a damn.

I dunno. I think the jury is still out. He was horrible during the Miami game. I was pissed at the defensive calls in that game. And yet, last two games, 15 sacks, holding Ark to 42 total rushing yards and great defensive play in the last two SEC games is something completely different.

And to answer the question... still don't know.

A&M sat in 3 down bringing at most an extra linebacker against Tyler Van Dyke and Miami. The Canes have a good to very good line and handled it well. TVD had time to throw all game and hit his passes.

In the past 2 games, albeit against poorer OLs than Miami, a QB catastrophe at Auburn, and a QB at Arkansas that has talent but doesn't look comfortable when in the pocket, Durkin has dialed up the pressure. A lot more 4 down, and bringing 5 or 6 rushers most of the game. When you have a blitzing nickel, or two blitzing LBs, it has given the DL more opportunities to really show what they can do. The young talent has started to show on the DL and Shemar Turner has been mentioned by a few national talking heads as one of the most impactful and best hand on the ground DL in the nation.

IF A&M can continue to dial up pressure and get home without getting torched by screens or blitz pickups with a ball over the top, it can be a good to great defense.

If they can't, well it'll be the Miami game all over again.

Seems to be a high risk, high reward scenario. Some weeks it will work and you'll look dominant. Others, especially others with a good OL and good QB, it wont.

Against Ole Miss, South Carolina, and LSU all have good QBs. Could be a recipe for disasters. I'd have added Mississippi St having a good QB, but that OL is swiss cheese right now.

Bama will be interesting. As will Tennessee.

Cupcake of Abeliene Christian is the only one that looks for sure to be a cake walk the rest of the way.

This team could very well go 5-7 again. Or they could end up 10-2. We'll learn a lot more this weekend.

So be it. My politics are anything but, however if I'm labeled "Woke" over that request, I'll wear it as a badge of honor for what he means to me. My little man isn't even 2 yet, but I will advocate for him his/my entire life. Part of being a Dad.

Before we had him, I was also throwing the R word about, especially in reference to things I thought were stupid or lame. I'm not proud of it and have had to relearn my vernacular.

This should be required reading for a host of topics on the rant, but will fall on deaf ears

All the best to you and your family

Don't forget TAM have better players than Ole Miss. But that doesn't mean TAM will be good. Look what they have accomplish all those years with 4* and 5* players.

Riddle me this. Ags have probably the best front 7 in the SEC and have depth. We consistently rushed 4 and sometimes just 3 vs Miami. Miami lit us up with big plays. Despite this he stuck with rushing 3 & 4 the entire game.

Since then we are rushing 4 or 5 on most plays and often sending more. We recorded 14 sacks the last 2 weeks.

Not sure what happened vs Miami and why Durkin played so conservative and dropped so many back. He has made an adjustment. Will it continue or will he revert to Miami? We will see this week I guess.
