Explains the low passing totals. Not that Texas didn't do a great job in their secondary. Rewatching the second QTR. McElroy just got sacked by Kindle... he didn't look good on the sidelines after that series.

worse performance ever... and it's COMPLETELY justifiable. at least he played! i'm sure he was told at the GET go to NEVER pass unless he's 1110% sure it's good. protect the ball and don't make mistakes... our running game will handle the rest.

You mean it was the worst performance since Barker in the 1993 Sugar Bowl. :p

Great defenses win N.C., good O's give them time to rest and take a breath. I'm impressed with McElroy as a QB and a person of his age; smart young man. All the other crap said about this hurt QB thing is just a matter of personal conjecture.

Saban said he's had the rib problem for a while. He played with it during the SEC Championship game and did OK.

Bad ribs wasn't the reason he stunk it up in the NCG. His receivers either weren't getting sufficiently open, or he was too afraid of being intercepted to stick the ball in there.

If he hadnt looked so bad earlier in the year I woulg agree it was because of ribs;however, our receivers werent getting open and the first few series he didnt have time.

I was pretty young for that game, when I found out about his stats I was STUNNED. Is that how he normally played? If so, that dude has made a pretty sweet living in Alabama off of a pretty average career1

he did NOT have the rib injury during SECCG. It was 2 weeks ago. but Texas's secondary was extremely good.

You're not going to be able to pass against every team for 250 yards. Texas was one of those teams.... probably because they practice against Colt fricking McCoy every day.

I'm sure our OC dialed in the running game early with just a few play action passes to keep the linebackers honest. Makes total sense.

You sure? I thought they said he broke them on that last scramble in the SECCG where it looked like he was about to get sacked. I know he looked like he was hurt when he got up from that.

Fail

"I cracked my ribs in the third quarter against Florida," McElroy said outside the locker room. "Two of them -- the ninth and the 10th. Left side. It's bad. I got it numbed up before the game and it was killing me at halftime."

Ah, ok so for part of the game vs UF. I knew he was playing differently for most of that game compared to the NC game.

Wow.

The biggest stat is he hasn't lost a game since the eighth grade. That's massive juju right there.

A quick google search didn't turn up a source for his stats during his years at Alabama, but I can tell you that, in 1994, he won the Unitas Golden Arm and came in fairly high in the Heisman voting (5th). I think its safe to say that his performance in the MNC game was more the product of being a young quarterback playing against a really good defense in a huge game, than it was an indictment of his skills as a QB. But that was still an awful, awful game, statistically speaking.
